Needing advise with tinting%?
Hello to all, wanted to get your thoughts on what % of tint you would go with? I ordered BSM, I was thinking 50% rear, driver and passenger window 15%.
Any comments would be appreciated! |

Personally not a fan of different shades myself. Any particular reason you're going with such different percentages?

Not a fan of different % tints. I'm getting 20% most likely on my BSM.

I usually go with 20% on the sides and 15% for the rear.
In the past I've done 8% rear and enjoyed not being able too see in but at night I thought it was a bit too dark. I've also done 50% in the front window (have to find the right installer to do that) and really liked that. |

Same % on all windows is the way to go. Having rear window being darker doesn't make sense to me, leave that to SUVs.
As for tint on BSM, IMO i would not get tint at all, gives it a cleaner look. And yes i live in hot humid Texas where you think i would say get darkest legal tint on all windows lol |

Living on the face of the sun I approach tint not as much for looks but far more for heat reduction and UV protection. From my experience and research the best tint is 3M Crystalline, really expensive but it works extremely well. I have had it on my E90 for 7 years and our Accord for 2. The darkest it comes in is 20% which most folks think is too light but it blocks heat better than the darkest of conventional tints. I get all of the windows in my car done including the windshield (it gets 10%) this blocks the heat incredibly well and the tint makes sunlight less harsh on your eyes not to mention the protection it provides for your cars interior. I tested my car against co worker who had limo tint on all his windows except windshield and my car was 22 degrees cooler on a 118 degree day. I also don't like dark tints because at night you feel like your driving down a tunnel.

I personally think 20% all the way around is ideal, but the cops don't really harass us for that around here

Not to be an jerk, but I think you're confused as to how tint darkness is measured. The percentage refers to how much visible light is allowed....so the lower the percentage the darker the tint. 10-15% is very dark...nearing limo tints

In my exp:
I currently have 15% front, 10% rears - great during the day, makes an actual different in terms of heat felt from direct sunlight. I think the look of dark tints really cleans up the profile and 3/4s view of the car. At night if I'm reverse parking into a driveway/garage/poorly lit area or parallel parking I will need to roll down the passenger window to improve visibility. Its near pitch-black if there is poor lighting and the windows are up. I've gotten pulled over for tints 3x, ticketed once. 100$ over 6 years..worth the tint tax. When I had 35% all around - lots of day time visibility, moderate privacy (daytime reflections on the windows + tints). Never quite needed to adjust window when parking. Good compromise but during bright day I felt as though the tints weren't dark enough. Next time around, I'll be doing 20% all around. It feels like the best compromise of the dark tint look without going completeeely overboard with limo tints.

Your correct. I also got it reversed. My windshield is 90% and windows are like 70 or 80.

I've got 18% all round (nothing on the windscreen) and for me it's the best balance. Dark enough so it's difficult for people to see in and no issues with visibility.
Had 15% on my previous car and whilst I really liked the look (especially on white), it was really annoying - borderline dangerous. |
