e93 rattles, open top???
Hi all, just want to discuss the e93 rattles issue:
Mine e93 335 encounter rattles from the hardtop when it's closed. I found that if I re-open and close the top again, the rattles may go away or rattles will come from different place. Did you guys experience this and use the same method. Also, I have tried to complain to BMW but they said it's hardly to find the sources of the rattles. May I know how did you force BMW dealer to work that out for you?...

I don't have an e93, but I've driven 2 of them and I have to say they are the quietest, rattle free verts I've ever driven, so I'd say you may have something going on and the dealership may help you out. I know they use a special rubber and felt lube to ease the squeaks, creaks and rattles. If you have a good dealer, they will find the rattles. It helps if you can get someone to sit in the back and pinpoint the approximate source. My dealer uses a stethoscope to help find deep rattles.

I haven't had rattles in my E93... yet. I supposed eventually the rattle demon will creep in as the car ages but I haven't gotten hit by it yet.
Is the top rattling in the middle seam or rattling where it meets the top of the windshield? If it's rattling at the top of the windshield, the only thing I can think is the try and put some thin weatherstripping on the top of the piece where the top comes down above the windshield. It'll probably have to be pretty thin, though. Maybe some kind of rubbery tape. Like electrical tape? I have noticed the top creaks when the body flexes. Like when you hit a pot hole or something. It creaks in the back a little, I think where the back window pieces meets the metal base next to the trunk. Luckily, it does it only rarely for me. Most of the time it's quiet. |

I had a couple of rattles on mine, but only when it was really cold outside.

Unfortunately, I believe Hong Kong only has one BMW dealer. If the local shop can't help him then he is stuck until the Service Bulletin reaches Hong Kong.
