M2/1M

The 1M is my soul mate, period. But we just adopted a new sibling. This fricken M2 is crazy cool. The stock exhaust is an enthusiasts dream. It is everything the the 1M is but smoother. I applaud BMW for a great effort to create Pyrat2. It's a worthy successor. Buy one as soon as you can.

Personally I can't see the point in having two cars that are essentially the same in regards to both being rwd coupes with limitations that brings. I'll keep my 1M and probably go for the current model Cayman S in a couple of years when depreciation becomes my friend. What I really want is a 911R but that will always remain a dream unfortunately!

yeah i see your point but there will be 1M owners aplenty who disagree that these 2 cars drive the same. i haven't driven M2 yet but thought of having these 2 crackers at the same time is good enough for me to get one

After a few years with the 1M, my attention started to wander and I found myself at a Porsche event. . . I'd always heard great things about the cayman and was fully expecting to fall in love with it. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how similar the Cayman S drove and handled as compared to 1M. Both are very well balanced and handle almost intuitively--the car goes exactly where you point it! (Yes, I know our cars are turbo and Cayman is NA / 4 vs 2 seats / mid-engine vs front engine). The point is, they are very close in their driving characteristics.

Then, I drove a 911 and was blown away by how utterly different the rear weight bias made the car feel and drive, especially in the twisties. It was a totally different experience and driving it fast on the track was like learning to drive all over again!

So, I ended up keeping the 1M (always!) and added an old school air-cooled Porsche 911. Couldn't be happier w my current car situation!!

I hear ya but we all do things for different reasons. I have a crazy infatuation with small M cars every since I bought my first used E30 M3 for a whopping $17,000, and regrettably sold for $10,000
I have been using the 1 as a DD but wanted to limit the miles and keep for a long time. So the M2 was and is the perfect solution for me.
Drive safe!!
