BMW F34 missing part? same as F30?
Hi all,
Appreciate some help, I have a F34 - GT, I've noticed water collects near the windscreen (photo pass side 1-bottom photo), however, the only drain off point is via some holes on the plastic cowling (further down on pass side 1). The issue is the drain off point is right over some wiring loom!! (see pass side 2 -photo with yellow connector). This looks pretty poor design but I'm wondering if I am actually missing a run of plastic drain cover per photo 3 (driver side - just above the BMW sticker you can see a plastic spout drain). The added problem is I don't see that this is missing i.e. missing holes or housing - would anyone with a similar car mind confirming if they also see water run over the wiring loom? Thanks Smithie Last edited by smithie; 04-17-2016 at 09:09 AM.. |

I can see 2 pics now.
I've just had a look under the bonnet of mine, but I can't see anything that looks like that. Any chance you could post a wider shot showing the general area you are looking at, and maybe pointing out the drain holes ?

Hi Allachie9
Here are better photo's I hope: 1. see passenger side near bonnet strut 2. behind the strut there are 4 water holes on the plastic cowling in the dipped area. 3. overhead view of where water flows out, 4 holes- right over wiring!!?? Thanks Alan
However, where does the water drain out from is it the 3 holes in the dipped channel? I'm just trying to see if its a design flaw in that the water still drains over your wiring, unless it channels elsewhere? Even with the plastic cover I'm missing the water would still drip over the wires when it flows out... rgds Smithie |

Right, here goes -
Water will drain from the holes in the dipped channels you can see. However, an integral part of the cover below the 'additional' piece you can see in my image, is slightly angled backwards, towards the bulkhead, so that water ultimately drains away well clear of any wiring. Whether this is the same as on my previous GT, I'm afraid I can't tell you. But maybe, as this one is just 5 months old, there has been something of a redesign. I hope that makes sense. I suppose the only other way to satisfy your curiosity would be to call into a dealership that has a GT and ask if you can have a look under the bonnet. Good luck.

Many thanks Alan - for taking the time on Sunday, I'll get onto BMW or make a shield/cover if they don't help as I can see my electrics going if I don't..
