Sticking Throttles?

Started happening today. Noticed that rpms didn't drop right away after manually down shifting. At one juncture the revs stayed at 4500 rpm in 4th. It felt like the cruise control had engaged (it didn't). Also had an episode of a clunky DCT down shift. No lights or messages. Stopped by Prestige BMW to see if this a known problem. Learned that there are no service bulletins. I'm going to drive it carefully tomorrow and if the problem persists it will be returned to BMW for repair.

--Ray.

Update - F10 is with BMW of Manhattan until Monay or Tuesday. Senior tech drove it with me & agreed there is a problem. Will update as soon as diagnosis is complete

Best theory so far is that the problems I'm experiencing are related to the waste gate operation of the turbos. Valvetronic issues may also play into this. Thanks George Boutsikos! Relayed this information to my service advisor at BMW Manhattan. Glad this happened sooner rather than later with less than 180 days to lease end...

The problem could be with my Dinatronics Stage 2 which interfaces with the turbo waste gate. I have a call into Dinan Technical Support to see what they have to say.

Spoke with Dinan tech support. They have not seen this problem with Dinantronics Stage 2. They will call the Dinan specialist at BMW of Manhattan and will stay in the loop until a resolution is found. They believe it's Valvetronic related rather than turbo wastegate.

Update: BMW of Manhattan is running tests on the F10 requested by Dinan technical support. They will give me an update late tomorrow.

Dinan will be reflashing the Dinantronics Stage 2 software as this appears to be the source of the F10's driveability problems. Should be completed by tomorrow.

Dinantronics firmware and software updated to latest versions. BMW of Manhattan will also be updating the F10 BMW ECU software to the "I" version which is the latest. The worrisome aspect of all this is that they can't determine what caused the problems I experienced. Getting the F10 back tomorrow and will stress test it in M-mode by manually upshifting & downshifting the DCT to see how it behaves. More later.

Got the F10 back this afternoon and took a quick spin up 9a to check her out. Seems to be OK. Perusing my BMW invoice revealed that they identified the problem being due to "DINAN SOFTWARE ERROR." Hmm… that's not what Dinan Technical Support told me. Here's what BMW did:

"DISCONNECTED THE DINAN HARNESS TO BOTH DME'S & INSPECTED THE CONNECTORS: NO FAULT FOUND. REMOVED THE DINAN MODULE AND INSPESTED THE CONNECTORS: NO FAULT FOUND. CONTACTED DINAN. AS INSTRUCTED BY DINAN UPDATED THE DINAN SOFTWARE. REASSEMBLED VEHICLE. ROAD TESTED VEHICLE AGAIN: CONCERN IS NO LONGER PRESENT."

Apparently they did not update the DME software.

A rereading of my invoice (t/h George Boutsikos) reveals that BMW also replaced the icm module and reprogrammed the car. Perhaps it wasn't totally the fault of the Dinan software…

A 400+ mile round trip this past weekend revealed that BMW's software updates didn't resolve the problems I'm having with the throttle malfunctioning and manual downshifts where at highway speeds you can't get any proper engine braking to scrub off speed. F10 is back at BMW of Manhattan where I escalated the problems to the Service Manager & a senior foreman. The first thing they will do is to remove the Dinantronics and see if that affects the problems. The maddening aspect is how these problems appeared out of the blue. It's also educational in that buying a new BMW is a dangerous proposition. What happens when this car goes out of warranty and computer problems rear their ugly head? DIY is not an option as it would be with the E39 M5.

Are you still experiencing this problem? I've been having the same issue and no one seems to see it. One technician told me that the car would be going in sail mode. Another told me that the pcv pipe needs to be cleaned from the oil clogging the pipe.

Funny i have a 535 M Sport but seem to have the same issue with rpms sticking at 4000 for like 10-30 seconds on a half or full throttle went for test drive with shop foreman who stated thats normal as they are race engines and that there is nothing wrong ??? Race engines on a "535 " I know im new to the BMW culture but im not an idiot

Really funny thing is the tech stated "yeah its these 8 speed transmissions" like he was trying to say there is some kind of problem they know about thats how i took it. and that was after i rode with shop foreman.
