IND | F87 IND Painted Rear Reflectors DIY

In a effort to bring a clean look to the rear bumper we now offer body color painted OEM rear reflectors. All reflectors utilize an OEM core for 100% factory fitment. Unlike the front reflectors on this car, the rears are much harder to remove.

Available on our website: http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...-reflector-set

Recommended tools:
Nylon prybar
Bondo spreader
Painters tape
Skinny flat head screwdriver

Step 1:
Tape off the area surrounding the reflector, use a couple layers to ensure a good barrier on the paint.

Step 2:
Take your bondo spreader and wedge it behind the reflector towards the top. Pry the reflector out to gain access to the top tab.

Step 3:
Take your small flat head screwdriver and release the top tab. This will take some force as the tabs are stiff.

Step 4:
Once the first tab is free repeat step 3 on the second tab and last tab pulling on the reflector to help release it from the bumper.

Step 5:
Install the IND painted reflector by firmly pressing it into place.

Do you have any pics from far away? Not really digging this from close up shots.

Also, any future plans to make black mesh grille inserts for the rear reflectors?

Thanks for all the DIY posts!

Only the close ups, sorry.

We have gotten a few requests for the mesh inserts and will look into if it is something we can offer.

Wow. Mesh takes the fake vent to a different level!

What about flat black ones? It might give it the illusion of an actual vent. At least at a distance. I might try to design and 3d print mesh ones.

I will probably just pull mine out and spray paint flat black. The 1M had flat black fake vents and they looked like real vents if you weren't really looking for it.

+1 on flat black. Gloss paint doesn't look right.

Flat/dull on the 1M looks good.

It looks good on the 1M because it's really deep, meanwhile the one on the M2 isn't as deep and flat black will look bad.

This.

That is why I'd like a mesh style one.

Could easily be done with a 3d printer.

True and this is why they need to make a mesh style one

I don't think so. Body color looks horrible. The rear is so large it needs the vertical slats to break it up.

Rear reflector delete

Does anyone have a picture of a rear black reflector delete on BSM? I'm thinking about doing this but I'm not sure if a black on black would look good.

Hate to bump such an old thread, but for those of you who installed these, I've seen this method listed here byIND and also another video by IND where you jack the car up, remove a wheel, remove the bumper liner, and do everything from inside the bumper.

Anyone want to weigh on on either approach? Obviously this one here looks much easier but there must be a reason people are doing it the other way.

I had read that you don't need to remove the wheel when you move the liner and pop the bumper out.

Just did an overlay on one side to see what it would look like. Looks ok, but slats might look a little better.

Thanks for showing that! Ya I agree, the slats would look better. I will either go with that or I'm thinking of maybe slight tint of both the tailights and the reflectors

Here are the black matte color horizontal slats on mineral grey. IND sells these ones (and also the honey comb mesh type)

The horizontal slats look great, $120 is a bit much but I may eventually get a set. How much of a pain in the ass is the process? I've already got a giant black and blue on my forearm from the front grill job

Has anybody been able to install it as above, i.e. without removing the bumper?

I did it two days ago via removing the rear fender liner. IND has a video that walks you through it. You do need to jack the car up and remove the rear tire though. I did this while installing 12mm spacers on the rears.

I attempted a few times but couldn't get the clips to detach.
