DIY - Navigation Map Update Process for F10

This process uses e-Sys to generate your FSC file, and the BMW-FSC-NBT generator to create your navigation authorization code. There are other ways to do this, but after researching, this one worked the best for me. My hope is that this saves you the hours of time searching through a 50+ page thread for the correct information on how to do this yourself, for free.

This tutorial assumes that you've downloaded the most recent apps via your favorite Torrent application, unarchived, and copied to a USB flash drive. You will need 29GB+ of available space to do this, and the contents must be in the root directory of the USB drive. Instructions are generally included with the archived torrent.

Note that you will have to manually edit the "lookup.xml" file used by the BMW-FSC-NBT application, or your most recent map update will not be selectable to generate the authorization code. Tutorials on how to do this, what needs to be changed, and many other details are located in the master bimmerpost forum thread: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=949582

Criteria:
  • F10 chassis
  • NBT navigation unit
  • "Road Map NORTH AMERICA Next 2016-2" maps used (NAVD_000014B8_255_002_165)

Applications & tools used:
Tutorial Steps:
  1. Load e-Sys, connect to car
  2. Click "FSC Extended" icon in e-Sys
  3. Enter "Diagnostic Address" value of "0x63"
  4. Click "Identify"
  5. "Base Variant" field will now be populated with "HU_NBT"
  6. Enter "Application ID" value of "0xDE"
  7. Enter "Upgrade Index" value of "0x1"
  8. Select "StoreFSC" and click ">>" to move value to the right
  9. Click "Read" button
  10. Save the FSC file and name the file to "XYYYYYY.FSC" (where XYYYYYY are the last 7 characters of your VIN)
  11. Put the FSC file into same directory as your Base64.exe ("tools")
  12. Open a DOS CMD prompt and navigate to this directory ("tools")
  13. Type "Base64 XYYYYYY.FSC XYYYYYY_000DE001.FSC" and press enter
  14. Edit "lookup.xml" to add your navigation map update to the list
  15. For "Road Map North America Next 2016-2" enter the following XML:

    <SgbmId id="NAVD_000014B8_255_002_165" SWID_FscShort="00A80027" name="Road Map NORTH AMERICA Next 2016-2" supplier="TAS" sop="03.11.2016" version="10_09" MapOrderNumberBMW="" MapOrderNumberMINI="" MapOrderNumberRR="" successorMapOrderNumberBMW="" successorMapOrderNumberMINI="" successorMapOrderNumberRR="">
    <EcuVariant CompatibilityIdentifier="NBT-HB" Format="CIC" />
    <SwUpdate SwUpdateEntry=""/>

  16. Save the file
  17. Open BMW-FSC-NBT-Generator.exe
  18. Click "Browse" and select the FSC file generated from the Base64.exe application
  19. Select your map product from the list
  20. Click "Generate"
  21. Update maps in car via USB. Note that this will take between 30-60 minutes to complete, but you can continue using your car during the update. If stationary, keep the car running so you don't lose power. In the event you do lose power, the update will pick up where it left off.
  22. When prompted, enter the authorization code displayed in the BMW-FSC-NBT generator
  23. Done!

Hope this helps!
Brad
