Premium Diesel getting expensive!
It seems premium diesel is going up disproportionately to normal diesel prices, around £1.06 for diesel, but £1.20 for premium, that's around £8 more per tankful! Why is this happening?
Since getting my 335d I have been only putting premium in as I'll likely have the car for 4 years and 100k miles, but at these prices with me filling up 5 times a month it is £40pm more than regular diesel, or £480pa!! Is it really worth me continuing with premium diesel considering it gives me no better fuel economy short term than premium? |

Its a hard decision, for me i do get slightly better mpg and its apparently better for the engine, do you get better mpg in the 35d?
No idea why that'd be, probably a marketing decision |

In all my tests in the 330d it made no difference short term, but after a few tankfuls of premium it obviously cleaned the crap from the tesco diesel as it then started feeling more powerful and very slightly more economical.

I've been putting premium diesel in my BMWs for the last 6-7 years and paid a lot more than it is now! Still seems cheap to me in comparison.

I'm off to tesco tomorrow to stock up. Just alternate the tanks, half for car half for you. I'm sure it will be fine :-) |

I tend to stick to shell nitro + as I found it made the engine feel more willing and smoother having gone from sainsburys finest via fuel save. Filling up at £1.18 as opposed to £1.10 or £1.03 at Sainsburys.
Found the mileage has dropped by a couple of mpg but can't stomach going back to normal diesel. Using man maths I fill up earlier so it's only costing £2/3 per fill up as opposed to more Once it hits £1.20+ will consider fuel save Whatever happened to the £1.09 days

Sometimes when 50 miles left, other times if passing local BP on cheap fuel day. All I do know is I have 1000 miles until first service at 15k miles. So likely next few tank fills will be with BP ultimate. My last fill up was 118 at local BP. |

The below £1 per litre for petrol and diesel was short lived as expected.
Everything rising just in time for me switching to petrol. |

Just use supermarket fuel with a shot of millers Eco max every 2nd fill up. Does the same thing and works out cheaper.
I have used this stuff for the last 5 yrs on all my diesels. |

I use it every so often, and definitely if I know I'm going to be driving the car on track or on good driving roads. If I know my next few hundred miles are motorway schleps then it's the cheap stuff.
What's irritated me more is that the government approved fuel reimbursement rates have recently changed and now there is no increase for Diesel engines above 2 litres. So I now get 11p per mile instead of 14p just back in March. On my business miles that's £50 a month of a loss, so if I used premium fuel it would be significantly more.
