M2 loves gas like a Fat kid loves cake

Currently in my break in period.

Averaging about 15 MPG according to the computer. I even filled up last night, and within 30 miles - I'm at the 3/4 mark.

This car is eating alot more gas than I have expected. Kept the revs between 2,000 and 3,500. - Barely shift in 5th or 6th. Local driving for now.

That's crazy. Seems like E92 M3 gas mileage at that rate!

Anyone else having similar results?

Hope this is just a break in thing... been so long since I had a new car (and it was a 4 cyl) that I don't remember if this occurred. Wasn't expecting Prius mileage, but kind of expected it to be similar to my 135i's N54 (newer tech offsetting the higher hp) which is around 12 litres/100km (around 20 mpg US) under DD conditions.

Love the title, but ouch that's a lot of gas, it should definitely improve though as the engine breaks in.

I think the primary cause is the lack of high gearing. But any reason it wouldnt easily get the EPA rated figures, if driven without hard acceleration?

It's usually all about HOW you drive.

I used to get ~20 MPG in the 235 and I get ~15 in the 981. Not surprising that early adopters aren't maximizing their mileage.

Ouch. Hopefully that changes with more mixed driving.

I think i'm going to try and just limit myself to one of the driving modes and see if that will fair well. Very surprised if the driving mode is causing that much difference.

I'm at 400 miles of driving about about 22 gallons of use (10 gallons + 12 gallons).

Try short shifting and get to the 5th / 6th gears ASAP.

It will get better with mileage. Wait 10,000 miles and report back.

Regardless, it's a sports car and not a Prius. Gas mileage should be the least of our worries. I remember sitting in MB showroom and a guy was complaining about the horrible mileage he was getting with his C63AMG. I giggled a bit and thought how he clearly didn't understand what type of car he bought. Gas mileage regulation is what's killing the sports car

I've driven my DCT exclusively in comfort using the sequential shifting mode. I got 18.5 MPG, according to the trip computer, on the last two city driving tanks (most recent 400 miles).

Is the M3/4 this bad on gas? I was hoping for 23-25 mpg combined daily driving.

It's rated at 20 city / 27 highway, so we'll see if it levels out after engine break-in.

I'm getting around 19.5, at least that's what the computer is saying. Always in sport plus, sequential mode about 95% of the time. My driving is more on the aggressive side but it's not like I floor it everywhere I go either.

Anyway, I'm happy with the mileage, its more than what I got in the 1M.

Don't look at your gas mileage. What you don't know won't hurt you.
