picked up AW M2 today

So finally picked up the car today. Pics attached. I will have some pics of the MP suspension installation but that will be posted on my other thread in suspension section. I took the car for a short drive and will do a longer one tomorrow. 8km on the odo at pick up and tires still had the slippery coating on them so took it easy. I did however drive the same twisty and bumpy road that I took the standard suspension demo car on a few days ago.

The car will be a DD hence DCT but I think it still very entertaining car in sport and sport+ modes, and super easy to drive. I think comfort has gone too far in the early change up programming and holding high gears up hill around town, but don't have to use that anyway.

I had to pick up and put some miles on my tarmac rally car this morning - event next weekend. Impreza similar hp, sequential dog box and 3 way remote canister shocks. The difference is night and day haha. race car is noisy and M2 armchair by comparison. The dog box flat shifting but really bangs through while the M2 is quiet and like a sewing machine with just a bit of burble on the over run which I really like. Think I am going to really enjoy M2 as a road car DD.

I will be doing an M car trackday with factory/dealer cars (not mine) next month so that will be interesting. By then I will have a few miles on my car and will also then be able to compare M3/4/5.

So went for a longer drive today about 150km. Mostly state highway albeit up and over some large hills and back roads. 2 things to summarise thoughts on DCT and suspension/handling.

DCT. I picked this mainly because of the fact that its a DD and my wife needs to drive it when I pinch her X5 to tow the race car. Otherwise I probably would have picked the 6sp. So at first I think get the thing into sport or sport + and use manual mode. But as a longer trip unfolds I find with road traffic etc I found myself flipping back onto sport auto which is still responsive for overtaking and cruising along in a very relaxed manner. Now I am normally as hard out as most and have never had anything other than a manual DD car for myself. (X5 for the wife and I sometimes drive that in the weekend) But manual for daily commuting. So this surprised me a lot.

MP shocks. pretty much still confirming my early impressions. Slow speed fells very stiff but smoother as speed increases and for me no problems. At any reasonable brisk road pace the car is very flat and wieldy with no understeer. Happy with that choice too. Whilst the adjustment range is good the access in order to do the adjustment is a bit tight. Other aftermarket brands or even kw with a remote canister probably easier to access and adjust. But the big advantage is MP is factory so warrantied and no issues with separate compliance approval which can be a problem here in NZ.
