Hey guys, I thought I would share my experience installing my VRSF DP last night. The unit sent was without defects and I really appreciated the free ceramic coating. Good job VRSF.

Update - iPhone video link -

https://instagram.com/p/BFPq1WBx0DU/

Install Difficulty - 2-3/10

V-band Annoyance whilst on the ground in your garage - 7/10

I would recommended you use a lift to avoid some annoyances.

Follow the M235i DIY and you will be good to go. The under-tray is different but it is also easier to deal with. Removing the two bolts on the front exhaust hanger behind the flex pipe is a must. Makes life much easier. No need to drop the system. Also, remove the brackets attaching to the stock DP, then remove the studs that go into the housing. Once the bracket is fully out you'll have much more room, I installed the studs right back in, this is a must as they are an integral component.

I found the new belly plate to be much easier to deal with. Gone are the days of 40 8mm screws and fiddling with plastic. You just drop the plate (8 large bolts, 10ish 8mm's) and your good to go.

The O2 sensor clips are under the engine cover, you need to remove the foam deadening to properly reach them. Or peel it up out of the way. The grey 02 sensor wire has less length when installed vs the black wire. To ensure the wire has enough room and won't contact the manifold I would check fitment when the top turbo v-band is loose and has some play.

---------------

Sound impression - Sweet baby Jesus, you have to hear it in person to understand. Cold startup is pretty loud but is over quick, idle is great, reminds me of the early td05 WRX catless + catback spool. Slight blips and movement produce a whistle. Small turbos are always awake. The low throttle spool itself is much more distinct than my full catless non res n54. It sounds like a DBB unit compared to the n54. It's much lower and has hints of that wonderful NA howl we all love, without the rasp. This is louder and has a different tone vs a catless m235i.

Driving impressions - The overrun burble is just plain fun, it doesn't sound like a first date restroom run. Everything is turned to 11. At highway speed in comfort you wouldn't know it was catless, in sport and sport + you hear a little more boom but I wouldn't consider this "drone" at all. This is where I actually enjoy active sound. You can appreciate its noise cancelling properties. The downshifts are fierce and everything feels twice as visceral, I'm not exaggerating. Performance wise I can feel a difference down low, the response is very quick. I'm sure without a tune gains are around 10-15ish so it's obviously not life changing. The sound however....is.

Overall I honestly don't see why spending your hard earned money on the MPE is a good idea. Unless you absolutely cannot run an aftermarket DP. If you gave it to me I probably wouldn't run it in conjunction. Besides weight savings In no way would the MPE alone add more flavor. The car now sounds like the m2 safety car videos we've been hearing. The stock catback is a really nice unit and will probably flow enough for any amount of power we can throw at it.

CEL notes, without a tune I will expect it to pop up around 100 miles as explained in another thread. I have the A seventy-four DP fix that I will install today. I'll provide an update after some miles.

All I can say is DO IT, do it now....

I can't post the link. I listed the maker in the post. The moderators won't allow it. It's the a7 4 simulator cel fix. I had a cel this morning, so second heat cycle.

No. If your friendly with your dealership and techs it's fine. I wouldn't risk it unless you ask them first. Just see what they think about it.

It's fairly simple. I followed all three. Just make sure you check the power without the signal wire being cut before you wire it. The wiring picture is exactly what you want. I tapped them the same as well. Clear the codes before you start it and you should be set.

I hope I don't step on any toes moderators. I'm just trying to help someone out.

Any luck with the O2 eliminator? Are there any codes hidden that don't throw the CEL? Did you cut and splice the factory harness?

Overall the fix works, had some issues early on. Checks out on the testing. There will be ghost response too slow codes. I believe they are working on that. Nothing that trips a CEL or affects performance.

It splices into the grey rear 02 sensor on the harness side.

Cool, glad to see it works. Once I get my car and order a DP, I'll order the fix too. I think I'll see if I can buy a weather pack and skip the splice part. I'm pretty apprehensive about cutting factory wires that deal with emissions lol

I completely understand. If you do it far enough back the black wrap will hide anything being tampered with if you choose to remove it down the road.

Hopefully a tune will catless DP will delete the CEL. Like the JB4 on my F22. Expect the same with the M2 being out for a while.

The jb4 f series is the same. Hasn't changed. It will work right now. It's clears the cel but also clear all other codes. This is why I did this.
