How much did you have to put down for deposit?

My dealer is asking for 5-10K deposit! Is that the same experience for others?

They are holding a check for $10k. They have not and will not cash it. Just have it in the file.

A little off topic, but taking a deposit for a GTS is a little disingenuous. If the original buyer balked when the car came in, a dealer would have an easy time selling it to someone else. I can understand a deposit on a little ordered car, a car in low demand, or a car with a very strange configuration. Otherwise this is just a money grab.

Is there something I'm missing?

For what it's worth, I had to put down $5000 for a regular M3 but due to what an outstanding dealership and just money I'd come up with to pay down my loan (I financed) I saw no problem with it.

Was not forced, but I was putting down more then that anyway, so why not.

I was just kinda "asked" ...

Would you wanna put down a deposit?

My dealer asks $1000 for Non-M and $3000 for M cars, seems reasonable.

2.5k on credit card. Will be applied to my first few monthly payments - they just wanted some security that I would go through with the deal after ordering it.

Offered to put money down but they said they didn't need it. Signed a contract quoting MSRP though. Deposits seem silly on these. If I don't pick mine up I'm sure they'll sell it for quite a bit over sticker. Those vouchers were an awesome idea from NA BMW M team!

Is that because they want to gather enough names for a bidding war?

Not sure. I had to shop around to find a dealship that is flexible. I think they will charge 50k+ on their allocations.

It isn't a money grab if they do not cash the check. It is actually protection from someone coming in and offering them money above what the car is sold for. They have a name with the car and earnest money attached to it which confirms the contract. Best for both parties.
