Rear brake metal thingy.

I took caliper out to paint. The first step was to snap out this metal thingy. Now I tried to put the caliper back but don't know if I put this metal thing back in right. Here is the photo. And what does this plate do???

it really only fits one way. because you painted it, its difficult to make out if its properly installed.

the ends need to go on top of the outer part of the caliper, not under them. The spring clip put pressure on the caliper to keep the pads against the rotor properly. Hopefully you cleaned up that paint job.

It's called a rattle clip.
Goes on top.
Only prevents pad rattle.
