Home Cinema Systems

I have a projector room and I have recently tried to purchase an Onkyo HT - S3705 5.1 system with a company called Superfi who I have had a nightmare with!

Does anybody have any recommendations for the best home system?

Budget around £350-£400

Is the Onkyo one any good and what are you using?

Cheers

Hey Raj,

Onkyo do some great products, I worked 10 years in the hi-fi trade and use to sell the previous version of that system and it was great for the money. Onkyo products are very reliable, they sounds great as well.

If you're willing to go the separates route, I saw this on HUKD yesterday, it doesn't include speakers, but its a cracking amp for the money:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/onky...-atmos-2449136

From Amazon German, the add a separate set of speakers to it and build it up.

Hope that helps.

Hi Raj,

I've got an Optoma 141x full hd and paid £370 last year.
Very impressed and have it hooked up to a Samsung 5.1 home cinema,

Definitely recommend!

I've got my old Onkyo 607 amp and Tannoy TFX 5.1 in the loving room for a little more sound and it's ok but if you have a dedicated cinema room I'd get something a bit more powerful if you have the space.
I have a 6.1 setup in my cinema room that I've built up over time, just waiting for Sony to release the VPL-HW45es projector so I can upgrade my Optoma HD20 as it's lamp life is coming to an end after 5 years of use.

Around 4 years ago I bought a Yamaha 5.1 amp (model number ended 373) and some Tannoy TFX 5.1's for around your budget. Really nice sounding system. Got it from richer sounds, they had an offer on but I upgraded to the TFX speakers from the SFX. You could choose from 3 amps at the time the Yamaha, an Onkyo and a Sony. The guy said that the Yamaha gave off the best sound in his opinion, but the others had extra features that the Yamaha didn't (spotify/wifi etc.). I bought the Yamaha as I have a computer and chromecast hooked up anyway. The only thing I was interested in was the best sound.

Personally I find richer sounds brilliant, no BS advice and good prices to boot. Only shop I sort of trust nowadays. Maybe worth ringing and seeing what they can do for you.

Another vote for Richer Sounds, I've just ordered a Denon 2200W along with Q Acoustics 3010/3050/3070/3090.

They actually sell the Q Acoustics 2000i kit for within your budget, probably what I'd be going for. Don't forget you need speaker wire etc.

I have an Onkyo amp now, was good but they used to have issues of running hot and killing components, mines on its last legs now really. I'd imagine newer ones are better.

Edit - Just realised you mean entire set for that price not just speakers.

I'd disagree with that!

Just google Onkyo and HDMI Board failure. They've a bit of an issue. Thankfully they repaired mine FOC and have extended the warranty for all affected models (a lot).
