Washing tips..

For us 2month in newbies things I have learnt...

If you have comfort access do not wash the car with keys in your pocket. The doors can be unlocked by a jet of water and obviously washing the handles opens them. Also the boot can open with the foot sensor...

Once you have almost finished the drying, get the mirrors to fold up so the water comes out and doesnt leave stains when you drive it later.

Dont forget to open the petrol flap and dry to avoid marks again.

Any others?

There's a knack to popping the wipers up too so you an fold them out. Think you hold the stalk up while the ignition is off? Something like that.

Don't forget to move the car a few metres too, you always miss bits on the alloys etc.

Yes, ignition on and then off. The engine doesn't need to be started, so just keep your feet on the floor. Then hold the wiper stalk up until the blades stop in the up position. Then you can lift them without removing the paint from the trailing edge of your bonnet...

which is what the dealer (or someone) appears to have done to mine! I have reported it to the sales guy, waiting for the body shop to reply. think I'll just get them to send me a touch up kit since its only on one side and it isn't that bad

The foot opening is awesome once you get it figured out. Best way I have figured is to pretend your kicking a ball under the very center of your bumper. If you put your foot under slowly it almost never works, for me at least. Quick movement right in the center and works 100%

After you clean each alloy dry the brake disks off with paper towels to stop them going rusty - or that just something for us OCD cleaners?

Good tip. A leaf blower also works.

Don't rely on the BBC weather app that deceives you into thinking the weather will be fine throughout the day, then embark upon a 2 hr car cleaning session only for it to rain heavily some 20 minutes post wash - for the entire day.

Guess what happened to me at the weekend?

That's a very good question, and possibly worth of a sticky thread of its own.

I'm sure you will have seen the creaking seals threads around.

Many recommend the use of BMW's own cleaning products to prevent this.
Though, I use DoDo juice products with manageable creaking by periodically (every few months) treating the seals with Sonax Rubber Care.

My Supernatural Hybrid and Purple Haze Pro waxes work well with Mineral Grey.

However, the biggest recommendation for any cleaning regime is a hose/pressure washer and two buckets with grit guards. Wash and sponge/mitt rinse buckets.

Haha if you live in Scotland like me, and it's a fine sunny day in the morning, assume it will therefore be raining in the afternoon thus ruining the planned car cleaning day!

Try ringing a reputable supplier of detailing products (preferably one that does detailing work also) for advice on wax for your car. I use polished bliss. I can't recommend them highly enough, always seem to have time to talk over the phone to give sound advice

http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk

As for shampo, I use this stuff http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...athe-plus.html it's great

My favourite detailing investment so far http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/cgi-b...html#aEFWW0001

Used them plenty of times, if you look around can usually find a discount code.
