Scratches underneath M-Sport bumper

My 2013 335i M-Sport coupe has just over 17,000km's on it with no scratches to be seen on the car but when I took a look UNDERNEATH my bumper I noticed in the MIDDLE part ONLY of the bumper, there were many long, deep scratches. These can't be seen unless you basically lay down and look underneath the bumper, but I still lost sleep over this. I'm wondering if you guys have scratches as well and if this is something that's basically unavoidable?

The bottom of my bumper is basically black from all the scraping (I'm lowered). You get over it/used to it with time.

It's pretty unavoidable unless you never park head in, and never drive up/down driveway ramps or go over speed bumps. In other words, if you just park in the garage and never drive it.

I call that part of the bumper, the scratch pad. It is damn near impossible to avoid scratches underneath the front bumper. They are very hard to notice though.

Park the car in your living room and wipe it down with clean baby diapers every night.

You soon get over it....I cracked my Msport bumper and after a few days it seemed like I was the only one noticing it because everyone kept commenting on how nice my car looked. I plan to do a front pre LCI to LCI conversion at some point when I get bored of the car which will probably be never but nevertheless it helps the cause.

It's avoidable if you stop pushing your front end over the parking curb, that's what's causing that.

I do angle onto the driveway, one wheel at a time. I'm so confused on how the scratches are this bad...

I've got that problem too. Those deep black gouges cut into the underside of my white bumper cover. I pull into parking spaces very carefully and stop ahead of contact, but every now and then - crap! One of my friends suggested I mask it off and just shoot it with satin black paint. I haven't.

A body shop gave me an estimate of $700 to repaint it. I try to look the other way whenever the scratches are visible.

A bumper respray at the dealer is $400, how do they come up with $700?

Apparently paint and body work costs more here.

I put a shocked look on my face when he said $700, but the price was the price.

+ If I drive my truck for a few days, I forget and go over a tire-stop curb soon after. I scrape mine a few times a year; it's not worth losing sleep over.

If it really bothers you, buy a touch up paint pen from bavauto and call it a day. Not worth taking it to bodyshop because it is inevitable that it will happen again.
That and nobody can see it.

Slap a carbon-fiber lip on it and call it a day (that was my solution).

Seriously?

I think every car has scratches underneath the bumper. It's designed for that; that's one reason why it wraps underneath.

If those scratches bothered you, then I don't recommend looking:
  • Under your side skirts
  • Under your fenders
  • At your brake calipers
  • Behind your rotors
  • In front of your radiator
  • Behind your wheels
  • At your steering wheel with a microscope

Consider yourself lucky that the front bumper doesn't get stuck on a parking block and.......

Never once cared about the underside of my bumpers. If you're lowered, it's going to happen.

I went over one that had the piece of rebar sticking up like an inch. Didn't realize until I backed out and there was a loud pop. Some of the screw holes got tore through lol.
