Transmission swap on jack stands? Any DIY for this?
Well I am limited to jack stands an engine support and a low lift transmission jack. Is this possible? My jack stands are high rise (almost 2 feet). Need to do a transmission swap on a 2008 335xi. Anyone do this?

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. I've had my E90 on the last notch with my jackstands and it's not too claustrophobic under there.

Not a 335xi, but here's someone who pulled his motor and transmission on his 535xi
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...n+build&page=2 It's on stands so you should be fine. |

I'd put the rear on ramps - give the car more stability in the air rather than 4 stands extended all the way. |

You snag a junk yard tranny on the cheap then?
Make sure to remove your wheel and place them under the car. No need for any serious risks. If you have close to 2 feet that should be plenty of room. |

Solid pick up.
Dismantling should be something like: Shields Exhaust Driveshaft Transfer case (maybe leave attached) Front driveshaft Trans cooler lines Electrical connections Bell housing to block bolts Trans mounts |

Prolly not a bad idea to have a motor support like HF sells in case you need to move the motor around a bit to facilitate bolt removal.
Also, trans weighs about 150-200 lbs, so act accordingly. I like to use ratchet straps to secure it to the lowering jack or whatever you create in order to make it work. Drain fluid beforehand. Will help with the mess. |
