Philly lease tax
My CA is telling me that Philly has a +3% surcharge on taxes. This sounds plausible but i cant for the life of me find anything in the philly tax code to support this.
I work for a big 4 accounting firm too...so this type of stuff is usually pretty easy to find.. Anyone else have experience in PA/Philly? its a NJ dealer too btw.. |

Really? I leased a car in 2000 in Montco, and I'm pretty sure the lease tax was 9%.
See attached state bulletin: Quote:
Keep in mind that the base Philly sale tax is higher than the surrounding counties. |

I had to dig a bit but eventually could support the 11% and let the CA off the hook. For future reference:
https://revenue-pa.custhelp.com/app/...taxes-and-fees 6% pa sales tax 2% philly sales tax 3% MV lease tax. Fucking communists. Thanks Obama. |

I've been leasing cars registered in PA for 10+ years and there has always been a +3% surcharge on top of the 6% state tax. I am not sure if it's county specific but I've always paid a total of 9% for as long as I can remember.

Oh, and I just realized you're dealing with a dealer in NJ. Yeah, they probably don't know about the taxes from another state but they usually end up finding out from the finance department before your deal is approved.

I'm just shocked someone who works for a big 4 accounting firm doesn't know their own state has a 3% tax on MV leases, especially When a Google search shows it right at the top without even clicking the link from the Pennsylvania Department of a Revenue.
http://www.revenue.pa.gov/GeneralTax...x#.V0kaiJWCOK0 Guess that explains how frauds like Enron happen. Last edited by Kabrich; 05-27-2016 at 11:15 PM.. |

A lot of big 4 services have nothing to do with tax.

Many NJ dealers have lots of PA customers--especially near Philly. I'm sure they know the taxes; and I'm sure they run it all through the computer which tells them anyway.
