JB4 and 20i engine

Seriously considering getting a JB4 for my 220i after test driving a base Jag XF (2.0, 240hp). I didn't think I'd feel that much of a difference, but I did and now I'm thoroughly depressed at how slow the 2 is

Main question: something in the back of my head tells me that the JB4 for the 20i engine requires the flex fuel wires. Is this the case, or can I install and use the JB4 without it?

Pretty sure you can use Jb4 Without it. I know of a guy with 220i with Jb4.

If your 220i has the same engine as the 320i, I can appreciate how slow it is - but the 228i has the same HP as the Jag. If you can get that model in HK, why not just trade up?

Yeah, the thing is....we don't. All we get for the 2 series is the 220i Sport, 220i M sport, and then a $20k+ USD jump to the M235i (and the M2, of course).

Wow...no 228i...wonder what the deal is with that? Basically the same engine with different tuning for 60 more hp. I guess they figure they'll suppress all the "hot rodders" unless they can pony up for the big engine.

What are the roads like over where you are - is it mostly urban, where all that power can't really be used?

I don't understand it either, probably a thing to not cut into M235i sales or something; barely anyone has the 220 here, 95% of other 2's I see around are M235's. Funnily enough we get the 328/428/528

It's Hong Kong, so 90% of everything is urban or traffic jams. If I'm being completely honest, the stock 20i is perfectly sufficient for daily driving here; it's just sometimes when I go out to drive with my friends, who have much faster cars - that's when I suffer...my car is very much 'all show, no go'.

Plus, my family's considering getting a mid-size saloon in addition to our current cars (hence the XF test drive) and that's the one we're leaning towards...and I can't have my dad's daily be faster than mine

Well yes, I see your point entirely. Every car I've ever owned has been faster than every car my dad owned - even down to VW "Beetles". Well, okay, I had one Beetle while I was in the Army that was the same as my Dad's previous beetle, even down to the color. But it ended there!

Very strange indeed that you can't get the N26 engine in a 2-series there, especially since the N26 variant is a SULEV engine with no loss in power but much "cleaner" in an environmental sense. We have that engine in my wife's new 228i convertible and it's amazingly quick for a 2.0-liter turbo 4.

Is Hong Kong still right-hand drive? I know what you mean about keeping up with the rest of the crowd when out on the road. Maybe you can trade up to a CPO M235i at some point?

I have a JB4 in my 320i. Running map 5, flex fuel wire connected. 4gal/tank E85 mix. Stock boost was 8 -8.5psi, now 16.5-17.5psi.
The difference from stock is amazing! It is slightly faster than a stock 328i but
less responsive than a 228i I recently had as a loaner.
The best $500 I ever spent
