TPMS with Aftermarket Wheels

What did you guys with aftermarket wheels do about the stinking TPMS light? I have an 07 M Coupe and just put some new wheels on. It has a reset button but the light either keeps flashing or stays lit.

Do I have to buy sensors and put on the new wheels, remove from my OEM wheels or can I disable the thing?

I know here in CA many tire/wheel shops will NOT mount wheels on your car without TPMS if the car is supposed to have them. Apperently it is against the law to bypass the sytem. I think it just might be the shops policy to avoid any future litigation.

For '07 or later Z4s you have to mount the TPM sensors on the valve stem inside each wheel. Either take them out of your stock wheels or buy new ones (something like $50 each on Ebay every now and then). The reset button just allows you to reset the default pressure when you remount or repressurize tires - not to disable the system.

You need specific TMPS sensors and valve stems.

The price at my dealer is like $65/sensor and $12/ valve stem I think.

Someone got them from EAS for $200 installed. I bet they sell them separate as well.

Since the Z4 cluster has two separate sections with the center section being various lights, there is no shield covering the lights part. So you can just cut a piece of black electrical tape to the size of the TPMS light and cover it up. Just remember its covered up cause you wont be able to tell.

The cheapest I've found for OEM TPMS sensors is ~$207/set from Tischer. (i.e. ~$52/wheel)

Anyone else get sensors recently? Looks like the price has gone up to $294 at Tischer.

If I got used CSL wheels from a M3 Competition car does it have any TPMS on it that can be reused? on a '07 Z4M?

Doubt it, I think the last year for E46 was previous to the change in 2007 of the Z4 to in-wheel TPMS units. Compare the part number on realoem to see what other models use the part and then watch the classifieds on the various forums. I picked up a nearly new set of 4 for $100 total for my track wheels.
