Replace 1 Shock only or should you replace the Pair?
Hi,
Just a quick one with regards to suspension. Had my F30 for a while now, close to the end of my motorplan (95'000km). Had issues with front suspension noise for a while, Dealer looked into this previously and stated its normal. Just had another service performed yesterday and inquired about the same noise again. Dealer stated front left Shock Absorber is defective (leaking oil) and need to be replaced. This would be covered by the motorplan, although they would only replace the one Shock. My question, shouldn't you replace these in pairs? Both front or both rear, but at least to get some balance in the system? I'm still not convinced its the Shock, sound more like a Ball Joint, but at least with the dealer I'm getting somewhere. Thanks! Last edited by CinBW; 06-20-2016 at 02:11 AM.. |

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm concerned that replacing one shock only would have different rebound, stiffness and dampening characteristics considering the other shocks did 95'000km. Would this be a normal approach from BMW with regards to only replacing what broke, or should I insist on having both front shocks replaced? Alternatively get the one replaced under warranty and buy the other unit to balance things out a bit? |
