limits of 340i paired transmission
Anyone know if the 340i is being paired with ZF 8HP45 or ZF 8HP50 ?
I am getting conflicting info.. It seems to me the cheaper transmission is one of the governors on how much you can push this engine in the 340. ZF 8HP50 is rated at 500NM which is about where MPPK would take it (circa 355hp).. it seems the engineers would not want to exceed the rating of the auto trans. If indeed its the 8HP45 then at 320 hp its already atop its rating at 450NM.. |

8HP50
It's probably already pushing the 'box on paper in standard form let alone with the MPPSK. There's likely to be some tolerance in the limits on the 'box as it would have been designed in conjunction with BMW so I doubt they would have put an underspecced 'box in the car. There's almost certainly very little room for tuning beyond the MPPSK though. http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/sele...CE/24/24_1504/ |

each transmission has power limits, ones less and ones more. He wants to know which one the 340 has so he knows the limits

This trans is likely solid to 450wtq no problem. |

The mppk tune is 500Nm which pushes right up against the rated 8HP50 @ 355 hp.
So the guys running JB4 are on paper stressing the tranny out.. an 8HP70 would have been great but its too big. I'm sure the tranny has built-in tolerance but what is it? |
