Extended Warranty
My N26 328i xdrive currently has 48000 miles and soon to expire for factory warranty. I have called 2 local dealers and their pricing for the extended warranty were same. 7 yr 100k Gold for 3720 dollars. And 6 year 100K gold for 3210 dollars. Will the extended warranty be worth it? My car has not had any kind of problems up to date but never had spark plugs changed. I am planning to keep my car for another 2~3 years.

Are you the original owner and kept up with maintenance and babied yer car?
I'd check the usual problems your N26 experiences after 4 years.. that'd give you a sense of what to expect. I usually keep my cars forever so I'd get the extended Warranty to as long as they'd give me for. and/or find a reliable local BMW mechanic. |

Off topic - You could take it to an indie for an inspection (similar to prepurchase inspection), and take the result to the dealer to have all the issues fixed before you hit 50k.

I made the mistake of getting the extended warranty on my 2006 330i. The expensive stuff didn't happen until after the 7 year 100k. Personally, I wouldn't do it just as I pass on all warranties. They wouldn't offer it if they didn't make money on it. |

Any idea how the previous owner pushed this car.. only way my bro bought a used BMW was he knew the previous owner was some lady who barely drove it and certainly didn't push it. No way he'd buy one after some dude Jb4'ed for years.. thatd be askin fro trouble for ownership.

The extended warranty covers components that fail. It does not cover maintenance, so spark plugs would not be covered.

Let me put it plainly. I would not own either an N20 or N26 without a warranty. Consider spending the $3k on the warranty as pease of mind. If you don't it could cost $20k for a new motor.

I would assume it means extend existing Warranty to 7 years/100K miles, very unlikely they are adding 100k miles of coverage, and if so then sign me up. There is a reason it's generally called an EXTENDED warranty.

I'm almost 100% certain BMWNA warranties only offer an additional 2 - 3 years. Longer warranties are available from third party providers. I had a 5 yr/72k mile warranty from inception on my car. It extended my warranty coverage to a total of 8 1/2 years and/or 123,000 miles. It also was an exclusionary warranty which means it was almost bumper-to-bumper. You need to be very careful purchasing third party warranties and understand their limitations and find out as much as you can about the company's reputation for paying claims and also its financial health. These companies are notorious for going belly up.

That's awesome... Wish I would have known that before I bought my Gold Warranty for $2,930 w/$50 deductible (total) mileage of 100K/5 years.

Yes it is the BMW extended warranty... I believe it can be cancelled and you are prorated by mileage/years that the extended warranty was in use. Not 100% absolutely sure though, a call to BMWNA could give you a better answer.

Sample contracts from Spectrum(?) and AUL only show at most the greater of $4000 to $5000, or current NADA/ACV, total payout limit for the life of the contract. That really sucks esp. for long(er) term contracts(e.g. 7 additional years), namely, as the need of repair increases with age, the NADA/ACV will also drop. The BMW ESCs also have current NADA/ACV limits, although BMW ESCs at most have 7 years, so by the 7th year, the NADA/ACV may be enough to pay for, say, timing chain job, but not a new engine. Yes you are correct, BMW ESCs in CA have full refund in first 60 days, after that the refund is pro rata per mileage/days elapsed.

Kinda curious to know if this'll be worth it on the B58 engine. Thoughts? It seems pretty reliable of an engine so far.
