Who will drive the most annual miles??
I am curious as to who is projecting to put the most miles per year on their M2. My annual mileage for the past 5 years has been right at 25,000. Some would think I am crazy for putting 100,000 miles on an M car in 4 years but I can't think of a better way to commute and get around town.
My round trip commute is about 106 miles, no traffic (drive through the desert basically) I can't think of a better way to spend the commute. Sure it will be fairly expensive, my car will depreciate quicker, fuel, tires and maintenance will all be higher than normal but I have been through that for years, I have over 210,000 miles on my E90. What I will do to protect my car is expel over the whole front end and ceramic coating. Let us know what you project and any concerns you might have. |

I'm torn. I'm replacing a 2011 Camry that I commute in that now has 187k miles on it in 5 and a half years. I hate to put that many miles on a M car so I may keep my old boring reliable Camry to commute and use the M2 for fun only.

About 22k miles for me. I agree no better way to spend it. My commute is through some highly travelled highways and frequent bumper-bumper traffic, rowing my own gears. 40 miles one-way average 60 mins. This car keeps me sane.
Previous car was VW TDI, I miss the comfort and range a bit. Plan was to keep it as DD but engine blew a few months ago. I may grab the train a few days a week in the winter. |

I had it for a month. Drove 2200 miles. Hit a coyote. Haven't had the car for a month. Shop has barely started working on it.

I will definitely compete for the lowest mileage. I daily drive a Jeep Liberty to work and will be keeping my M2 tucked in the garage almost all week until the weekend and then forget about when we get snow here in the Northeast.. Garage queen at its best

To the low-milers: Are you saving it for the next guy?
I used to have an E36 M3 as my weekend/good weather car and BRZ as my DD. BRZ saw sun, rain, snow and had a blast late night drifting in snowy parking lots while the M3 sat with its battery removed. After 4 years I sold the E36 and somewhat preferred the BRZ. I attribute that feeling to the lack of bonding experience with the M3 because I drove it so infrequently (9k miles). Fast forward to now, I have moved to a warmer climate and only need one car: the M2. It will be driven because I have no other option. I'm thinking 15-18k miles a year. |

Easy to laugh when your M2 hasn't been in the shop for a month after 2.5 years of following it and 4 weeks of having it

I have a buddy who has a car that he commutes in while his 2 year old 911 sits in his garage depreciating and not being used, it gets driven about 4,000 miles a year. I don't get it really. Why pay for a car this expensive and have it sit? Don't see the upside. A BMW will go 200,000 miles, I know I have one (of course I do all my own mechanic work) and they go that distance pretty easily overall, not Honda easy but not as bad as most think. Why not just enjoy the car your paying big dollars for and use it, when your done with it in 4-5 years it will be worth less than if it sat but not as much as you probably think and whats the point, this isn't a good investment anyway. That's my rant on the topic. Hope it doesn't come off as rude but hoping to convert you to the drive the wheels off it squad.

To those of you that already have the car, how is this car a daily driver?
I understand that this is an M car and the suspension is firm, and the exhaust is going to have a nice sound to it, but are any of you finding that it's a bit much for daily driving? For example, I had an S2000 (which I loved) a few years back, but the sound of the exhaust on the high way got a little annoying after a while. What are the early impressions for DD? |

I've done 3100 miles in 2 months and it's great as a DD. The exhaust is not too loud at all. At constant speed you will barely notice it. But when you put your foot down you will feel great!
The suspension is firm but not too firm. The ride is quite comfortable even at less than perfect road surfaces. The only "problem" is that the road noise is too loud here on the rough tarmac we use here in the north because of the harsh winters. But you get used to it. Quote:

Only once was I frustrated with the car as a DD. It was late and night and traveling to the shore with my wife and kids. We were traveling some B-roads with significant seams at even intervals (Rt 40 in NJ). The bumps put the car into a constant rubber banding effect, the family was a bit uncomfortable, kids couldn't sleep. I had the same issue with my old E82 on the same road. In general, I'm only sensitive to the stiff ride when I have company. In another occasion my wife was trying to drink coffee on the PA Turnpike, another horrible surface, she struggled with a few failed, messy, attempts to take a sip. Otherwise it's totally compliant. The clutch is engaging but light enough for stop and go traffic. Generally a very easy car to drive. The stereo sucks. |
