Bought Another Auction Car.

So I have a friend who lets me go to the auction from time to time. Just purchased this 2008 BMW with 69K miles 6 speed no nav black interior. Got it yesterday for $6,700 and basically sold it today for $14,000. That extra cash I made I can see my bmw with 128K miles get new upgrades

Forgot to state, nothing wrong with the car. Just got it at an incredibly cheap price because the wastegate was rattling extremely loud. I know how to fix this problem and fixed t yesterday in a matter of minutes. Car sounds good and runs good. I have a 2008 with 128k miles and was debating to switch but I love my car even with the miles on it.

Hood does shut. Car is perfect the good was open because people at the auction keep it open. Only reason it went cheap again like I said is because of wastegate rattle. It sounded like shit and people thought it was something else. Car drives good and absolutely perfect

Nice. I am looking at a sweet E36 M3 Vert that is selling for a song. The owner died and the wife is looking to get rid of it. My plan is to enjoy it for a little and then sell.

Wait.. 2008 69k miles, wastegate rattling that loud, couldn't you drive to a BMW dealership and get 2 new turbos (under 8 year/82k extended warranty)? You got a good flip profit either way!!

All you have to do is tighten the actuator rod. I made this tool and tighten it in 3 min

No he wouldn't be able to. Do the math, 8 years to a 2008 is 9 years since it was more than likely built in 07 the warranty applies to the build date up to 8 years after.

It's applied to the in-service date, but same issue given that only a tiny % of the MY2008 cars were originally sold after July 2008. Nearly all are out of the 8 year turbo warranty period by now.

Is it build date or from date the car is registered by first owner?

My high mileage car is beautiful and I have done all the service to it. Put over 7k into my car so far just because it has miles on it doesn't mean it's good.

Higher mileage = more mechanical problems. Whatever its your car and money.

Not necessarily. A well maintained and taken-care-of high mileage car can have less problems than a car with an unknown service record with lower mileage. Remember, the lower mileage car already had a wastegate rattle.

But one thing I learned with BMW's is that their reliability is pretty random. Some cars have excellent reliability and go forever without any (or minimal) issues, and some cars are just terrible. There is often no rhyme or reason to which one you are going to get.

Previous/current owner mostly dictates the reliability, imo.

Pretty easy to screw yourself....at least in my state. That car qualifies for 2 month lemon law warranty

edit: and $14k is a pretty high price to pay even if its in brand new condition and no accidents

I 100% agree with the decision to keep it. There is an unmeasurable amount of value in a car that you personally know very well and have worked on.
