Misfiring E92 335d

Hi,
Have an E92 335D with 139K on the clock. Recently it's been running as if the small turbo isn't working properly.
Sometimes I put my foot down and literally nothing happens; at best, a slight acceleration if I'm lucky!!
If I pull over, key out and start again, it clears the issue for a bit, then it returns.
Went into the garage and they replaced the air flow meter but made no difference. They disconnected the quick-fit connector from the air flow meter and ever since, the car's been OK!!
The car has had the DPF removed with the Ecotune pipe and remap. Spoke to Stan @ Ecotune and he's said it's not software related.
Any ideas what the root cause could be?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gordon

Sounds like the classic vacuum hoses issue. I've had this same issue before. The hoses that control both turbos degrade and fail, I replaced all of mine with silicone and fixed the issue immediately.

It's not great, stick your foot down and then nothing...nothing...nothing.. POW the big turbo kicks in and you leave like a scolded cat.

It could also be the turbo actuator, quite common and happened on mine

Could be anything or a combination of things such described above such as vac hoses for instance, however the way you're describing the problem means to me that you could have a possible turbo pressure converter failure the early ones were or seem to be breaking down causing low down response issue and pose deficiencies. On the X5 X6 35d's we see a fair few in with lack of low down performance and it's mostly down to the converters letting go. Once replaced the cars get the sparkle back.

The new replacements sure around £78+ VAT per side(you'll need 2 one girl each turbo)plus the newly modified units sit on a modified support bracket which you'll need as well, from memory the brackets around £24+VAT. No1 below are the converters and No6's the modified bracket

While you're in the area good all as Mob's stated to look into the condition of the vac hoses and replace where necessary and a good time too to look at replacing the breather valve as a preventive maintence measure too.

But smart move forward would be to get it checked out who understands the BMW product

Appreciate the replies guys!
By disconnecting the air flow meter cable, the car seems to be running fine! Would a faulty actuator, hose or convertor be the root cause?
