Can't tell you how many times I have heard " I read on the forums", or "I have this SIB" (never applies to there car) Least you seem smart enough to know not to drive on it...... but what happened? |

It broke down with low oil pressure error, and when they loaded the car onto the tow truck they used the arm to drag the car.

Does the wheel look obviously out of alignment? Car pull to one side?

Sorry to see. This actually happens more often than it should. There seems to be a gap in a lot of tow truck operators and BMW's in general.
I usually screen out bad ones by asking them if they utilize the factory approved method for vehicle tie down.. if they say yes... I ask them to describe it. If I do not hear words along the lines of they remove the plastic jack points at the bottom of each side panel and use a J hook I move on to the next tow operator. Sometimes you don't have that luxury I know.. but I start there. Again sorry you have to fix your car at the expense of someone's ignorance.

I wouldn't drive with the trailing arm bent. It should be replaced and any shop in the area should be able to get one sourced from BMW fairly quickly, probably the same day. It would take about 30 minutes to replace plus alignment and you are done.

ECS makes a bad ass rear trailing arm upgrade. I run them on my car.

I find it amazing that when discussing the F30, an engineer working for BMW will post so what if it's heavier and weaker (stamped steel control arms), what do you really lose? I think they've since promoted that engineer into senior management. edit: although I did my own calculation, we're talking about 13.6 ounces ECS, and 18.24 ounces OEM, so if you think about them as pieces of mail, we're talking about a quarter of a pound...actually 4.7 ounces lighter...maybe I should work for BMW and get that promotion |
