Summer winter rims

Hey folks. Wondering if anyone can chime in on if I am making a dumb decision.

My 06' 330xi has 17" Standard Rims. I've found a great deal for a second set but they are 16" off a 2007 328i. My car never came with 16", am I foolish to mix & match rim sizes?

Not at all. The 16's should make a great set of winter rims.....cheaper tires too.

will your rotors fit in the 16's?

I have 18's on my 330i w/ 17" winter wheels and tires. I'm not sure 16's would fit?

Why not make your 17" your winter set and get a better summer set?

+1 on this. I did style 162's on 235/35/18 blizzaks, ridiculously expensive. 10/10 would not recommend

Not at all. This would only be foolish if you had three 17s and one 16 or something stupid like that.

I have 18s for the summer and 17s for the winter. When it gets cold, you will be thankful for the softer ride that accompanies smaller wheels. Make sure you put some decent tires on there.

Don't run the mixed and matched wheels at the same time obviously...

But MANY car enthusiasts run different summer and winter wheels/tires... that is, those of us in cold weather climates...

My summer wheels are 19", my winter wheels are my stock 17" wheels with blizzak tires.

Exactly what I was saying.

16" wheel won't fit over your rotors/calipers. 330i/xi has bigger brakes than the 328i/xi.

That was the case on my E46 as well. Other owners managed to find a handful of 16's that would clear the brakes but most would not. Best to test fit all 4 wheels over the brakes before making a decision.
