BMW Extended Warranty
Does anyone know have experience with the PLATINUM extended warranty? I was quoted $3,750 for an additional 3 years/up to 100K miles. Is it worth getting?

Do read the extended service contract(ESC) coverage on bmwusa.com. These ESCs are not the same as bumper-to-bumper new car warranty, and it costs $50 per claim. |

With 2 engine systems, I am sure there is more to go wrong. Also, fwiw, my car is under 10k miles - so no idea if mine was priced over or under. Spoke with several BMW Dealers and None ever asked mileage. |

It does make sense ESCs of AH3 are more expensive than 328i/428iGC ones. The prices of 328i and 428iGC can be close, one way to confirm is to ask F&I to print out per VIN(with current mileage) MSRPs of all ESCs.

The F&I guy showed me a screen asking for VIN and mileage to pull up the MSRP prices from BMWNA. It can be possible that the F&I can enter an estimate mileage(given a MY13 very likely has more than 10k miles).

Nowhere is mileage entered in as a factor. The only Mileage info is in the Repair History of the car and the last one on 5/27 was at 7,307. As the car could be over 10k now, one would expect that would be asked or entered somewhere to get the prices |

When the ESCs are actually purchased the F&I guys still need the current mileage by reading the key. Last edited by bavarianride; 07-06-2016 at 09:10 AM.. |

Also asked today. There is a flat $400 off the MSRP if under 10k miles.
System uses mileage on last Service and calculates off that mileage, even if months ago. Last edited by Kabrich; 07-06-2016 at 03:17 PM.. |

Maybe there are west coast dealers that will do no-key approach, or just need to hook up with east coast ones remotely. If the system can just take VIN it will be a quick 5-minute job for any F&I to add thousands to their books. So do east coast dealers offer any discount off MSRP? |

So how much should I offer the dealership? They quoted me $3,750 which seems high. Thanks, I didn't know it was negotiable! Again its the PLATINUM level of coverage for additional 3 years(84/100).

The one downside of BMW extended service contracts is that they are inclusive and cover far less than the new-car bumper-to-bumper warranty, plus the max duration is 7 years(while past bimmer experience is that repairs do not usually start until 8+ years).
There are online reference that says on average ESCs pay $0.50 per $1 of premium collected, so for a $3k ESCs, the service departments generate $1500 of business, while BMWNA gets $1000, and the F&I makes $500, looks like a good deal for BMWNA and dealers. So I called another BMW dealership today and I was quoted the same $3,750 for 7/100k coverage. The 7/70k quote was $3,350. Both are PLATINUM level of coverage. I think for $400 more its worth the extra 30,000 miles of coverage even though I don't plan to drive more than 10k miles per year. I was told the price is non-negotiable and regulated by the State of Florida. I am planning to go with the 7year/100k miles platinum coverage. Any thoughts?
