Need to scan it and see if any codes are stored. Is it a slow crank, like a weak battery?

most likely battery. Starter requires alot of juice from the battery to crank.

Original battery checked couple of weeks ago at the dealers-they said it was in great condition still -and not a slow one-just a normal speed turnover.

See if you notice any puffs of smoke out the exhaust next time it pulls this tomfoolery. Perhaps leaky injectors?

does it happen after the car sits for a day or so without being driven? Mine would sometimes get a long crank after not driving it for the weekend. Was the original battery and like 7 years old. Did that for another year or so until it finally gave up the ghost.

Air, Spark, Fuel, Timing
Cheapest, easiest, to hardest, most expensive

Things to check(perform action then see if problem gets better): you probably know this already, but you did ask..
1. Air filter - pull it or change it
2. Spark Plugs - change them
3. Coils - change them, but make sure all connections to them are also good
4. Timing - cam and/or crank sensors,
If you are not mechanically inclined then 1-3 may be your limit and you need to take it to a mechanic.

Good luck
Bruce

Ive been having the same issue in my e60. I checked the battery voltage before starting and it was sitting around 12.25V. I took the car to advance auto parts to get the battery tested and they said it is fine. Could it be that my starter is just going bad? The car has 115k miles on it.
