Wastegate rattle starts right outside of 8 years!
So I'm not sure of the exact in service date of my car but it was manufactured 04/08. Im assuming that I just rolled over the 8 year mark and my turbos just started rattling loudly. I'm well under the mileage limit at 60k.
What are the chances that BMW will goodwill this repair? I have a ton of history with my dealership..they had my car for 13 weeks at one point to put in a new block after they damaged it doing an intake valve cleaning. I have an appointment tomorrow...am I wasting my time? |

I'm sure you'll be fine as it'll be at most a month or two off of the expiry date. Are you getting any codes?

Plugs and/or coils would be the cause of the misfires most likely, however, if you have access to a scanner check for any codes. As far as the rattle goes, a dealer refused to do my turbos as they claimed I would need more rattle, though they didn't charge me a diagnostics fee as my car was in for the battery cable recall and I asked for them to look into my rattle. Hope you get a pair of snails.

Yeah Im sure thats the issue..it hasnt been a big enough issue for me to tackle it yet. Just got finished having the thermostat and waterpump replaced and then I replaced the oil filter housing gasket myself ( this was a bitch). When it rains it pours! ahh the diagnostic fee. I forgot about that..how much should I expect for that? |

Well, I asked another dealer for a 2nd opinion and they told me it would be $179, however, if they find it necessary to change the turbos, it would be waived. Normally, the dealers around me have specials where they do a free diagnostic check on the whole car so I'll probably wait for one of those. My warranty expires mid June 2017 so I've got time.

So I am 1.5 months outside of warranty for the turbos. They are running a 125 dollar diagnostic on the car now. If it does need turbos he said the best BMW could do was 50% goodwill. 1.5 months! Hopefully it isn't much more than 4k, they give me more than 50% or I don't need them all together!
