e92 rear interior? rattle

Problem fixed by now, solution for me below

My car has made this really annoying rattle for over 6months now
and i've tried to looking into it but can't find the cause.

When driving it sounds its coming from rear passenger side
I had friend sitting on back trying to listen and locate it but at the time it didn't make
the sound

It still has made the sound even theres people sitting on back but not that time.

I took a short clip where you can hear the rattle if you listen closely
perhaps someone has had same rattle and might be able to identify it? (link below)

Rear passenger side rattle e92

So far i have taken rear side panels off to see that speakers and other stuff
are not loose.
I have driven seats folded down and up, no difference.
Trunks been empty.
I put felt tape on the white plastic connector on the "side panel" between rear seat and door panel.

All help is greatly appreciated as allways, Thanks!

These cars rattle like hell. There is some plastic back there near the rear window. Also could be your trim pieces in the back. Could be speakers.

I have a rattle coming from the black grille below the rear window but I haven't had time to take out the rear parcel shelf to fix it. Apparently it rattles against the metal cross piece underneath. Several posts about this.

I guess im gonna take right side rear panels off then tomorrow and
go for a test drive, atleast then i can narrow it down to perhaps rear
parcel shelf area / backseat if rattle is still there without panels.

Hopefully its not seatbelt mechanism related since that sounds hardest to fix.

Driving me nuts along with rattling turbos and other stuff going with this car!

Yeah, it's maddening. The plastic mentioned by the other dude is notorious for rattling. Check there first. Some felt tape I believe was the solution for many people.

I have no idea how to get to it, but you'll see it at the bottom of the glass.

I took side panels off today and went for a test drive, the rattle was still there!
I went to pick up a friend of mine to help me locate where its coming from
but soon as he entered backseat and we went for a drive, there was no rattle anymore.. ?
(after i drove him home i was able to ride about 1 minute alone and then it started again..!)

I tried to tap black grille at parcel shelf near where window ends but couldnt
reprocude the sound..

im starting to think that it might come from somewhere else cause why would
it stop if someone sits on backseats if it was parcel shelf rattling or something like that?

Could it maybe come from rear shock top mounts? even if it sounds like
fast phased plastic like rattle?
I was bouncing rear of the car with trunk open and there is some small
knocking coming from passenger side shock top mount area?

So frustrating! how can i locate the source if i need to drive to be able to hear it
but having someone else on the car makes it stop

I was just doing suspension work the other day. The part I bolded is probably the result of a worn strut/shock. My car used to click over speed bumps and replacing the strut fixed it.

Not sure about your rattle, though.

I had that part rattling earlier aswell, ended up sticking small line of felt tape ontop of it and no more rattle.

Anyway that was not loud as this rattle and i can definetly pinpoint this one
to passenger side rear area, not center

My rattle happens all the time when driving on the smallest uneveness on the road
It doesn't make any extra sound or clunk when going over normal speed bumbs.

Guess it could be strut, shock or maybe just the top mount of shock but can't tell

Im not even sure where i could buy new struts/shocks, as i dont know what suspension i have
Some hartge lowering struts, some bilstein shocks and some kind of H&R pieces below struts that raise rear

Sub'd, I have a rattle too but it sounds more like when a house fly gets trapped in your window net and it just buzzes trying to fly out. It comes on and off occasionally from some where in the back.

That might be the rear center console cover that slides forward and backwards.
Try sticking something ontop of the cover so it becomes tight and see if buzzing is gone.

My cover was making buzzing earlier at certain rpm's as you described and ended up sticking some felt tape there
that cured it

Update

I took a short video clip of the rattle/noise when driving straight on uneven road without sidepanels,
sound is easy to pinpoint to somewhere near passenger side rear seat / wheel whell area
but can't find the cause.
If someone could recognize this type of noise and could pinpoint me in right direction maybe?
will i start felt taping everything or look for suspension parts

^Thanks, I'll give it a try and its hard to tell from the video but that sounds like something from the rear end's suspension.

Problem fixed

that rattle is totally gone now!

Ended up being something related to rear shocks or top/bottom mounts
as i changed new koni yellows + new lower and upper mounts and
rattling is now 100% gone.

Guess it could have been lower shock mounts as they had totally worn
out rubber parts so it was metal on metal but can't say for sure.

Anyways one annoying problem fixed, now to the next one!
Thanks!
