Best transmission setting to drift? Not talking about DSC OFF

After my break period was over like a month ago I started drifting my car each and every time I drive, in my short list of RWD cars, having owned a M6 grand coupe, Lexus IS350 to name a few, I never had the pleasure of drifting a car that is so friendly at the limits. Compared to my M6GC this car ice skate on the road, in a theatrical way!!!
Driving with dsc off, of course, I find it very hard to continue the drift if I change de gear by myself, as soon as I tap that paddle, regardless of the RPM the car would straight itself. If I leave the car in drive, no manual shifting, the car would continue the drift.
I would like to know the experience you guy have on this subject, there has to be something that I’m not doing correctly I think.
Thanks in advance

Well duh if you shift you will probably lose your drift. That's physics.
