Apologies for being a lurker, still read the forum most days and is very helpful.

After 2 years in my pre-lci 335d f31 I've had a rush of blood to the head and gone for something completely different-335d to 430i GC.

Why? Have I lost my marbles?

I have got a bit bored of the wobbly suspension, nose heavy, point and squirt of the 335d-Don't get me wrong I love the drivetrain but its very rare you can go full bore round these parts and when you do it's not overtly satisfying.

The 430i is 155kg lighter and a lot of that is over the nose, it's coming on real tyres and that's something I've wanted for ages-its rwd!!!. Lastly, the 4GC is absolutely beautiful.

Going all grey, 398 orbit grey wheels with MPSS, mineral grey and with grilles and MPE fitted. Already high spec on 4GC so only added lumbar, blue brakes and harmon kardon.

Sure many will see the engine as a big step down but fancied petrol for the first time in 12 years and not sure my fuel allowance would cover the 440i if my mileage goes up or the cost of fuel does. Hopefully it will be easier to go flat out in the 430 and it will make a nicer noise doing so.

Looking forward to idrive 5.0 and should pick it up in 3 weeks when it will be treated to the full cquartz to make the grey pop.

will try not to lurk and sorry for the war and peace.

Welcome! Sounds a nice car. There us always a way to get into a x40i.... Take off the mpe costs for the 430 and surely it's there?! You then get free pops bangs and growls with the 440!

Welcome ex lurker

I've just gone from a 435d to a 440i and I wouldn't go back.

Post some figures up and I'm sure we can get you into a x40I for the price of your x30i.

As for fuel costs - forget them unless you are doing 20k miles per year. The x40i is a lot more frugal than you might think (as long as you aren't wringing it's neck.....)

The evils of negative equity at year 2 and the relative lack of support on the 4GC meant that the 430i was the more sensible place to be this time round. Did the standard comparison to c2c etc so happy with the price paid. Plan is to keep this longer (though I've said that before) and go straight to M340i in the next-gen.

only had 2 petrol cars-the mighty 0.9 fire Fiat Uno and the equally mundane focus 1.6 Zetec and then a string of 4cyl diesels favourite of which was the 123d which I loved.

So I think i'll be more than happy with the 430 and then leave space to go 6 cyl.

thanks for the welcome, actually joined here when I bought my 520d 4 years back-I miss the refinement but not the barge size round these parts.

It will be even better over here without the Yank orange strips.

Enjoy your new toy!

There are quite a lot of us jumping out of diesel to petrol. I considered 30d to 30i myself. But, sadly couldn't get a 30i test drive easily... However, they did have a 40i instantly available...

A light nosed 30i with hopefully better turn in and the performance 18" wheel pack should make for great fun!

Welcome. Moving from Diesel to Petrol will be a delight for you. Could not agree more about the wobbly suspension and nose heavy feel.
just about run in my F31 340 and your comments on diesel and rear drive hit the nail on the head for me also. Will post a review soon.
The 4GC is a great looking car, enjoy and share the pics.

as long as it has the requisite 4 wheels i'll be fine.

Only ever had 1 issue with a bmw, when I got this 335d they hadn't sealed front windscreen properly and there was a high pitched wing whine that rose in pitch with speed-was literally the worlds most annoying noise

spent my first fortnight in a manual 420d-bad times
