re-painting calipers
I know this has probably been answered but i have searched and searched and never found an answer. I bought the car with the calipers already painted red, I'm wondering if i were to re-paint them yellow, what are the steps? do i have to remove the old paint or can i just clean them up and paint over them? Thank you.

Generally, it's best practice to remove the existing paint before applying a new coat. If you can't remove the existing, make sure you sand down any imperfections that will show after the new coat is applied. Also, clean the paint very, very well before applying and make sure it has dried completely before driving.

I used a Lisle 14180 wire brush this weekend to clean my rear calipers and it took me 5 min. each side to have them looking brand new. They aren't painted, but 50K miles and never cleaned. You may want to find something heavy duty like this one, otherwise you'll be buying a few of them to get the job done.

I would start with the brush, and if it's not working as fast as you want it, you could go to an Automotive Paint shop and buy some "Aircraft Paint Remover". I've used that to take off the powder coating from some ProCharger intercooler pipes, and it worked wonders. It will absolutely remove any paint it touches using a chemical process, so be very careful if you do try it.

With a history of brake dust gripes on the German cars (not just BMW), I gotta wonder about painting calipers yellow...I hope you have in mind changing pad formulation for less visible dust!

I know it sounds like a lot of work but I would pull the calipers off completely and get them sandblasted. Best way to ensure a clean paint free surface.

Once you get them cleaned up to your satisfaction do this. http://www.g2usa.com/
That blue BMW looks awfully familiar. I should be getting royalties dammit.
