BMW window shade install

Hi guys

I recently purchased the side and rear window shades for my f30, and overall am happy with the clean look. Though if you have the pull up ones from the factory those are still a better bet.

Anyway, just a note that even though the instructions say to mount a tab by the door lock on the bottom of the window, I had much better luck putting it on the side corner. When installing on the bottom, the shade was pulling on that bottom tab and kept popping it off.

Hope this helps!

What are the advantages of these as opposed to tinting? I saw the shade option when I was ordering my car but I had no idea what they were.

I never liked tint. Here in jersey you can't tint the front very much and I always thought it cut the car in half.

These can easily be removed and come with storage cases. They also cut glare at night and reduce heat in the cabin. It isn't a bad option to go.

Agree, I think tinting windows with dot matrix border looks ugly.

I just picked up a set for my F31 and couldn't be happier!

Looks great.

A nice option for us that can't tint the windows on the front doors.

Do you keep them drawn all the time? All my previous cars had the rears tinted, this one came with the factory shades like those.

I like the tint since it's easier to see through, and I don't have to close them. (But that could be me being difficult with change!)

Just wondering how others use them on those sunny days.

Looks good. I have the same blinds but I installed it as per the instructions lol. So far I've replaced the 3M tape on the bottom of 2 of the tabs (one on each side) cause they started to come undone.

I like these just fine. Tint works too, just not for me in jersey.

The tape seems to stick to the window frame much better than the pebbled texture that makes up the door panel. If they come undone again, try sticking them to the top more than the bottom. Just one in the middle bottom will hold it just fine.

Is it easy to replace the sticky 3M tape?

Any feedback on the rear door window ones?

Get a thin razor and trim it off, then replace it with something like double sided gorilla tape. Something like an xacto knife will help give it an exact fit.

The rear isn't the issue, it's the sides that always pop off for me.

Ordered these online and just received them today. I seem to be missing the instruction sheet. I tried YouTube but it was an E90 and showed that the shade came with a couple of 'built in' tabs which mine do not. Can someone confirm if there are tabs/clips pre-installed on the F30 sunshades, as well as 8x 3M tabs (4 for each window)?

Also, anyone have a link to an electronic version of the installation instructions, so I can place the 3M tabs where BMW says to?

You do get 8, 4 per side.

Honestly you can place them wherever you like, but they do not stick well to the bottom portion of the trim.

However, if you'd like to follow them to the letter, then one goes on the bottom behind the door lock, another goes midway on the bottom trim. Third goes on the right side of the matte black trim in the middle (sitting in the car facing the driver side). Fourth goes on the top in the middle.

I was planning on getting my windows tinted but this seems like a better option as it's easily removable.

I've got a Baby Beanbag on the way so want to be sure they have enough protection as I live in Spain.

Out of curiosity, I had a set of these on my E87 (1 series), and I never used the clips. The blinds sat in the window frame and never moved. Are the clips really needed with the F31 or can I install them without the clips?

You need the clips. There isn't anything to hold the visors in otherwise.

Was the heat reduction in the cabin noticeable? The windows on my F30 are tinted but not to the legal limit here in NC (they came tinted that way from the dealer) so I have been considering getting the sun shades to try and make the cabin a little cooler.

Sort of hard to tell because it's in the back seat, not the front, but unless it's totally humid and gross out id say so.

Thanks so much for taking the time to type this out for me. I didn't put any on the bottom because they don't seem to stick well, as you and other have said. 2 on top, 1 on each side seemed to do the trick!

My initial question was whether there are any 'built in' clips on the shade itself -- saw a YouTube video where the 'small window' (c-pillar) section showed a 'built in clip' in the shade itself, not one of the 4 attachment ones. This was for an E90 though. Does the F30 version have that, or is it just the 4 clips that hold it up?
