Turn off the car with one push?

I just got the 340i. With my old car (135i) you could turn off the whole car with one long press of the start/stop button. That would shut off the engine and turn off all the electronics. That doesn't seem to be the case with the 340i. I have to hit the button once to turn off the engine, take my foot off the brake, and then hit it again to turn off all the electronics. I assume I'm doing something wrong. How do I turn off the whole car with one push?

You can't. Just get out and lock the car using comfort access and everything will turn off.

They changed it to two pushes to do the same thing as the old 1 long push. It takes a whole extra second. And while you're there, reach over 9 inches and hit the unlock button so you don't have to double pull the door handle

Or code:

FEM_BODY 3040 CLM_UNLOCK_KL15OFF_AFTER_PIA_AUTO_LOCK - aktiv

That way, if Auto-Lock is enabled, all doors will unlock at ignition shutoff.

+1. In a way I like it. I always have the radio on, so if I'm walking away from the car I hear it and get reminded that I need to hit the lock button on the remote.

Great advice if you don't mind your doors unlocking automatically. Some like it though.

The owners manual is a good book to read.

You can also code "all electronics off when driver's door opens". That way, you push the engine stop once, then open your door and everything else shuts down.

I'm all for RTFM, but in fairness, I don't think the manual says "You can no longer shut down the car with one long push of the start button."

But it does explain how it does work. It's not a revised E90 it's an F30.

I didn't realize everything would turn off when you locked the car, but that's not really an option for me as I don't lock it when I'm in the garage. I guess I'll have to get use to the double push. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't restart the car if I forget to take my foot off the break first.

I do. Thieves have been known to break into garages.

You'll get used to it, I used to restart it too when trying to shut it off but now it's second nature. It's not bad, just different

According to my Genius if the car is unlocked for extended periods it is in a state of readiness and this will strain the battery effecting battery life. Batteries are not cheap nor do you want the troubles that start with a low charged battery.

The manual does clearly explain the second push will shut off ignition.

When you lock the doors it shuts off. Your genius is an idiot. Push once. The step out and lock the car. 1st world problem solved.

I live in a small town with a very low crime rate. I have zero concerns about someone breaking in to my garage.

When you walk away from it the car doesn't sense the key within proximity, it turns itself off after a few seconds if it's in Park with the engine "off" in ready state. So if you're okay with that it could work for you. I would suggest experimenting a bit and see if it works well in your case.

Your genius is making a false claim on their intelligence. He's just plain wrong about this. The car completely shuts down all vital systems in about 10 minutes whether the car is locked or not. I never lock my car in my garage and in 61,000 miles the battery shows no sign of weakness.
