Vents blowing hot air

We recently bought a 2016 M235i xDrive Convertible and today I had a problem where the front and rear air vents were blowing hot air (much hotter than outside ambient air temp). AC was off and temp was set at 68 - 70 (cooler than ambient temp of 82) and we had the top down. The rotary dials were set to "blue" cool but it was blowing hotter air than ambient. Much hotter. They should be blowing ambient temp air.

Also, AC works fine but when I turn it off it takes miles and miles for it to stop blowing cold air and shut off.

Suggestions? Potential problems.

I think that's because the engine is warm. the fan won't blow ambient air, it'll blow air that has been heated by the engine.

It's a feature not a bug! That behavior occurs in both my 135i and M235i convertibles. You want cold air at startup? Turn on the air conditioning for 5 minutes to cool down the vents. Another feature of the air conditioning is when you put it in "Auto" mode and set the temperature to say 73 F. 73 is more of a suggested temperature rather than a requirement! As far as the climate controls go these cars are not your mother's Grand Marquis

Does this only apply to convertibles? If so, why?

My 335i does the same thing. It pulls in way too much heat from the engine compartment. Vent is useless above 65 degrees ambient.
