BMW Service Center and My Mileage
Hi Guys,
I honestly had no clue what to search for on here to find an answer to this so I apologize. I got a phone call yesterday from my BMW service department telling me that I was at "roughly" 8,200 miles and I am due for a service soon. My question is, how on earth do they know my almost exact mileage? The only thing I can think of is my Navigation had an update on Sunday on my drive home from NJ and the call came Monday morning...so odds are it has to do with that right? Let me know if anyone actually knows and if they will always know how many miles i have on my car...I feel like this is Enemy of the State and I am being watched by a higher power! Thanks! There is a cellular transmitter in the car that talks to BMW. I think it is part of Connected Drive? I know that for my service center I was one of the first people back in January that actually had a service call go through. However there were a ton of false calls (I was at 4500 miles and it told them I needed brake service? I had no messages in my car for this and my brakes are fine)

As mentioned, most BMWs now have integrated cell phones. If you have BMW Assist, it's pretty obvious where it's integrated to. Note that all BMWs that have Assist have a GPS receiver, even though they don't have a Nav system.
You kind of signed up when you signed papers, although it's not obvious what you were signing up for. |

Yup... E.T. always calls home.
Like said, it was part of the paperwork you signed. You know when the girl says "sign here to relinquish all rights, you can decline but I won't give you the keys...." |
