Budget / subtle mod, adding tweeters only
Hi there
Have explored the option of buying OEM tweeters and the door surrounds with grilles and it's very expensive compared to buying a pair of universal tweeters. The issue however is that almost all tweeters are 4 ohm when the stereo and existing speakers are 2 ohm. I realise it's not the preference and not ideal but what considerations do I need to make to wire these in, I guess it's the preference to wire in parallel also and then just not turn the volume up too high? I read somewhere also that coding can be done to change the EQ, not really sure who I would ask to do that though. The tweeters I was considering are Vibe Blackair entry level ones. Thanks in advance, |

The stockers even have the connector for the stock hifi tweeters (you'll need the pods for those unless you get creative/ugly with it). You'll run tweeters in parralel, it's not like running subs in parallel (thus reducing impedance) because of the different frequency response. |

Good morning!
Thanks for the direction, wow that was a lot of links to sift through, I had a good read and many of them are relating to premium upgrades, interesting reading but not what I am looking to do. This link was the most relevant for myself - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352586 It re-confirmed that the tweeters should go in parallel and that this will be ok for the stereo, so I am going to do that. The tweeters I have chosen are silver and black, so sill be a bit obvious compared to OEM black grilles but it should be a nice addition. For the price I might also do a pair in the rear door cards, fronts will be the greater benefit for myself and it's mostly solo driving when I'm using the car. |

I did this mod and wow it really made a huge difference to the dull standard bass setup, (I did then lower the tweeter level which gave the whole sound a bit more depth after)
I just picked a second hand pair of bmw harmon kardon tweeters from ebay for about £60 including postage for the pair. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1264994 |
