F36 owners with kids...I have a question

How is this car with car seats and baby stuff in it? I know the headroom is worse than the F30 but the utility of the hatch is a big plus.

No problem at all, have a three year and a five year. The three year sits backwards and legspace in front passenger seat is fine.

Also, as you say the hatch is great. The Rotweiler sits there from time to time

To me, F36 vs F30 is an absolute no brainer..!

Did you say that you stick a rottweiler in the hatch?
I have a 2 and 5 year old and a lab. Never even thought of sticking the lab in the trunk. Is that even possible?
Back to the OP ? Kids are fine in the back. Will be better when the car seats are gone so they can utilize the middle hump (car seats are wide )

you can take off the tray and the entire shelf attached to the hatch which will ventilate the pets.

Exactly, if everything is off the hatch opens up and the dog will be just fine (at least for shorter trips...

I have a 4 month old in a back-facing infant seat with no problem at all. Hatch has been so useful and can even fit bulky strollers. We just did a road trip to Montreal and it easily fit our stroller and two good size duffle bags.

I would go to the dealership and bring your car seats and then see how you feel. That's why I own many cars. The kids cant comfortably fit the F30.

F36 works perfectly as a one baby car. If you're planning on stuffing 2 kids in, then the adult in the back will be cramped due to the size of the car seats. Going with something narrow like the Diono's will help improve this.

The hatchback alone makes this a winner over an F30. We are able to put in our heavy duty stroller (Chicco Activ3) into the hatch along with a whole bunch of other crap and still have room for more stuff.

People complaining about the F36 lack of headroom are probably over 6' tall. If you are 5'10" or shorter, this is not an issue. Rear doors do make ingress/egress more difficult compared to the F30, but we haven't had much difficulty with our kid.

Only downside with kids seat that I've noticed in both F30 and F36 (age 1-5 year old or something) is that the belt (sorry might not be correct english) isn't easy to insert.

Depending on the type of seat, it can be very close to the seat making it necessary to lean over the kids seat to buckle them up.

Comparison to another brand/car where my kids can do this themselves really, it's a minor disadvantage.

I had F30 where this was like this and my F36 now is a little bit better but still it's pretty close to the kids seat which makes it too difficult for my son to buckle himself up without either his sister helping out or me doing it for him

The hatch is super nice and I have a much easier time loading it up than my previous F30. The only thing I don't like about the GC is that the rear middle seat is raised unlike my previous F30, which had a flat bench row. Placing the baby seat in the middle allowed my wife a little more leg room because the seat fit in-between the driver and passenger seat. Now that we're forced to use the latch system, my wife has to scoot the seat farther up. It'll get better once we get to the convertible seat tho.

I too am curious as to how the backseat would look with two child seats in it. My lease on the F30 335i is up next july (one year and counting) and I'm seriously considering the Gran Coupe for the next one. My kids are older (will be 8 and 6 when its time for a new lease) so i'm assuming my older one will be in a booster (currently high back booster) and my younger one will move into the high back booster. i like the hatch.. and its just a much nicer looking car than the F30

thankfully no strollers, diaper bags, pack and plays, etc to pack anymore
but the hatch will be nice to fit a few golf bags in

I can take a shot if you absolutely have to know what it looks like To me it looks like a backseat with two child seats in it, nothing special really but let me know, I'm not kidding

The rear seatbelts in my F30 are terrible for my kids to buckle up themselves. The receiver falls into the seat. I put some foam under it to hold it up though and now they are happy. I didn't want to do the extender because it's just one more piece in the chain that might not get buckled correctly.

thanks for the offer... was checking one out in the parking lot at the mall the other day. they had one car seat in... and it looked like more than enough room. My kids are in booster seats.. so they take up even less space.

Not worried about the headroom as of yet as my kids are 8 and 5... t

if i can get a smoking deal on one early next year then it's a go.

cheers!

We looked at a F36 before buying the F30. I liked the F36 more style wise but practicality wise if your kid is in a rear facing seat they will be staring at the roof and feel very claustrophobic. We put the seat in and it just didn't work out. F30 is much better for your rear passengers; F36 will give you a bit more hatch room. The exhaust note on the two is also completely different. My 340i is way louder and more aggressive than the 435 w/ M performance exhaust I was looking at. Happy shopping.
