No, it's not rated for it. Only the diesel is rated at 4000lbs and even still that's pushing the limits of the car.

Just rent a Uhaul pick up and full trailer.

I doubt it would hurt your car, but that sounds pretty sketch. Usually tow strap setups are used for towing around town late at night or on back roads. My advice, if you want to do that, would be to take it nice and slow and keep it off the interstate.

Cheers for the quick replies. Uhaul is going to be 300 just for the truck... Don't know what I'm going to do

I disagree, I can't imagine it wouldn't hurt the car in some manner if nothing more than being more than the brakes were designed for. A trailer hitch on a car is a sure sign for me that it's not a car I want to buy...rent a truck or buy an SUV/truck if you want to tow stuff.

I doubt he's installing a tow hitch on his car, I envisioned the use of a tow strap here...
I assume the car being towed will brake for itself. The only areas of the car that could be damaged are the drive-train. If you take it nice and slow, the engine shouldn't have a problem. It will put some extra load on the trans. I'd be happier doing something like this with a manual than an auto. At least with a manual you know that all the extra wear is going into the clutch.
And again, nice and slow. The load that is placed on the drive-train will be the highest when you are are trying to accelerate.

300?? That sounds really high for a U-haul rental.

That would be crazy for 3 hours at interstate speeds (or anything close). I'm sure it's illegal as well.

Certainly illegal. And very dangerous. That's why I said "keep it off the interstate" and "nice and slow."

OP, chime in here. What setup would you be using?

If someone is considering towing a car for 3 hours on the interstate with a tow strap then they are a complete moron and should just be shot and save us all the potential of them reproducing.

I would not be installing a tow hitch, a tow strap. I know it sounds shady as hell lol. Unless I get extremely I will not be using this method. I've called an independent towing place who quoted me a pretty crazy price and U haul is the same. One second and I will post the U haul rates I found. Me e90 and the e36 I want to pick up are manuals FYI ...

I'm going to reproduce with your sister after I get done towing two cars on a strap over the interstate.

If you can't afford it then you can't afford it...revisit when you can. Jeopardizing yourself and everyone else on the road at that time is just stupid. The cheap route is rarely ever the correct one so prioritize and move on.

Doubtful since my sister would easily figure out what a moron you are. This is possibly one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of and I'm not a young guy.

Mileage could get expensive.

You don't have a buddy with a truck?

Rent an intown truck at a car rental place with unlimited mileage. Then get the trailer at Uhaul.

Of course would need to confirm towing is OK.

Rent a pick up truck from like Alamo or something. It was only $60 for me to rent a F150 for a day with unlimited mileage then just rent the Uhaul 2wd dolly which is cheaper then the trailer. Granted you're 25yrs old or over.
