start-up problems?

Hi,

I have a 2009 328i thats been getting some hard start-ups somethings. I'd say 7/10 times the startup is fine, with just one crank with the push of the button and the engine is on. But sometimes it'll take a couple of cranks from the engine to start-up. I'm not holding the start button either i just hit it once and let go. This is when the engine i warm too. Everything else seems fine, idle is still normal. Could it be a battery problem or the starter?

thanks!

might have to wait till it throws a code. May be you crank position sensor. Carly app is your friend when it does code.

My vote is starter, but it would be wise to check the battery too.

Sometimes a failing starter will throw a code.

Was there a solution to this?

Our 2006 325xi has been experiencing similar hard starts where the engine turns over four, five, six, or more times before starting. I am not holding the button, I only press it once. We've owned the vehicle since 2010, and replaced the battery in either 2013 or 2014. It only started to do this when the weather got colder (within the past month). At first it only happened on the first start of the day, but today it seems to happen throughout the day.

I saw a video that suggested the MAF sensor.

Any other things to check?

I will look for codes tomorrow. I have a cable and the INPA software if there is anything I can check with that.

thanks for any reply!

michael.

Thanks for the reply!

How did you determine it was the Crank Position Sensor?
