Bought a new battery, does it require registering..??

So I just replaced my factory battery in my 08 e92 335i, and the new one I got was similiar in ratings..

AH Rating = Old-90 New-92 (+2 AH difference)
CCA Rating = Old-720 New-850 (+130 CCA difference)
RC Rating = Old-160 New-170 (+10 RC difference)

Upon looking at how to register a battery for my 08 E92 with INPA and NCSEXPERT it got so confusing because of the clusterfck of information and posts created over the years.. Then, I came upon one thread that was talking about how many individuals who didn't even register or anything never had any ill effects if the one they replaced the oem with was similar in characteristics.. Now I know my new one is AGM but I'm assuming the old one wasn't, because I don't see that anywhere on the battery and when I ran an RealOEM check it specifies the AGM has diff CCA than what mine showed..

If anyone has an idea of an easy way to register and program this thing please let me know.. I've read several threads that mention coding these is both necessary and not necessary, and I have all the software from BMW Standard Tools and a KDCAN Cable so if I can do it myself that'd save me some time, money, and tylenol..

Here are pics for reference.. Top is obviously the new one, Bottom is the standard factory old one..

Some will say no, others will say yes. I say if you can easily then why not, I replaced mine in December and didn't register it until recently and haven't had an issue. IF anything it decreases the life of the battery if you don't register it.

Well I did notice my clock keeps resetting and every time i turn my car off for more than a few minutes, once I remove the keyfob the little service screen dings, and it shows a battery.. So I'm assuming that I'm the unlucky one who will need to code it and stuff... I also noticed my comfort access didn't work either when trying to unlock and lock the car...

Yeah, I think if you change Agm to lead acid or vice versa that's a definite register criteria.

If you went with lead acid as original you'd prolly be fine.

You must understand the difference between registering and coding the battery. Register simply tells the car that the battery is new. This is essential in order to ensure proper charging of the battery. As it's gets old the car changes how it charges the battery.

Coding the battery is where you tell the car what kind of battery it is, the AH and type (AGM or non-AGM).

Your new battery is pretty close to the old one, so coding probably isn't necessary. But you mut register it.

Wrong. The rating is close enough 90 to 92 but he's switching from a non AGM to a AGM. Needs to be coded and registered.

Carly works but it's a $ add on. Tool32 or download from bimmer software.com are free. If you have MHD or a BT cable they will both work as well.

I didn't read that his new battery was AGM. In that case, yes, coding is required, along with registration.

Since its AGM and old one was lead yes

Since its AGM and old one was lead yes
you need to reprogram it for agm as well as register it.
Carly would be easy go to the e90post coding board
and look up one of the battery threads if you want to it
that way.

Pb=lead plus the white color tells you its lead/acid
