Chances of a trade in
I have a 2007 335i convertible with 131400 miles i recently took it in to bmw for a diagnostuc as I am having acceleration issues. They said I needed the following injectors all 6, hpfp and turbos. Now if i was to repair im looking at 4k plus am thinking of doing a trade in for same car but with lower mileage what you think my chances are of doing this? Car drives normal no issues only has issue qhen flooring it the engine light appears and i have to reatart engine.
What you guys think? |

First find out how much your vehicle is worth, and what the dealership would be offering for a trade-in.

Is it a lot relative to a paycheck? Not really but depends. (usually no matter what our pay is, our expenses are already laid out incl. savings, so it goes back to comparing the amount to day to day expenses) Is that a lot of work he's getting for 4k? You bet. Common sense we all know how much turbos cost parts alone on the web. |

Take your estimated trade in value with no issues based on 'good' condition and mileage, subtract your estimated cost of repairs at indy, and you'll get your estimated trade in value.
As is, with engine light coming on, your car not sell-able to someone who just wants a car. It is either: a repair project, or parts. I'm sure a dealer will take it in trade, but don't expect to get any good amount of money. The dealer is taking the risk by taking it in trade and he may end up selling it to a parts dealer.

Where the heck are you getting both turbos, all six injectors and a hpfp for $4K? I just spent $1300 on injectors (only parts) and now I'm looking for somebody to install them. All that work for $4k sounds like more than just a good deal. If you really like the car, I would fix it for only $4k. The shops I've been to, would probably be closer to $10K for that much work.

My BMW dealer wanted $1800 for new injectors parts and labor.
If you find a car you'd like to buy, you can always try to trade in your current car - maybe they won't get on it too hard and trip the check engine light. $4,000 would drown me.

Why? The higher mileage N54's tend to be more reliable than the lower mileage ones since most of the parts have already been replaced by that point.
As for the OP, 4k is reasonable for all of that work. That said, I HIGHLY doubt all of that is wrong with the car at once. Injectors may be under the recall, so that wouldn't cost you anything. Check in on that and have them do that first (for free). You can pull the cover off and check the numbers on the injectors to see if they are part of the recall. What codes is it throwing? Don't just take their diagnosis to replace everything without knowing WHY it needs replaced. Pull the codes and see what the car is telling you. |
