Just Complaining

Just venting, IT IS SUPER ANNOYING when I have passengers in my car and they DO NOT understand the concept of pull once to unlock and pull again to open. Rather they pull once and yank on the handle and try to bust the door open meanwhile I'm worried about my door handles :\ . Then to top it off they pull the little unlock tab up!!!

Perhaps you should explain it to them in an adult like manner so they understand the concept of the BMW double lock function. That or turn off your automatic locking when in drive feature.

I simply press the console button to unlock the doors when I have passengers. That way, all they have to do is pull once to open their doors. Simpler than having to explain the 2-pull procedure. I know, it's a perculiar BMW thing, but I'm so used to doing the 2-pull, I don't give it a second thought.

I find explaining it to them once you turn off the car fixes that.

Solid first world problem to have though.

I just asked the dealer this and there answer was no. They said it was a safety feature. You can either have them auto lock or not, that's your only choice.

This is the first thing I disable. Nothing is more annoying than locked doors when you're driving.

on a similar note, my wife always slams the door closes without using the exterior handles ... so just grabbing the door by the tinnest part really and slamming it closed, kinda annoys me as it worries me that she's mess up the door in the end like that ~ maybe just being oversensitive haha but I guess I can relate to some extent

Hilarious to see others say this. I almost had my rear handle pulled off when my senile and partially def grandma-in-law was trying to open the door one day. As she reeled on it and seeing the handle flex back, I thought it was a goner. No amount of yelling or reasoning was going to have her pull twice. She wanted out as we arrived at her favourite rib joint and nothing was going to get in the way of that. Ladies a solid 200 lbs and would give most on this forum a run for their money in an arm wrestle. Thankfully the handles seem to be designed well and can handle some abuse.

I've just gotten into the habit of preemptively pressing the door open button while rolling to a stop when certain people are in the car ??

There is also the cleaning of the shoes off against the side skirt when getting in. Just a couple light taps against it. We get a lot of snow so I appreciate the effort of avoiding getting all the crap in the car, but cringe at the inevitable chips of paint I get from the heels. A nice tap of both shoes together would go well...but we all know how that suggestion would come across.

You must never drive any place unsafe then which is just about anywhere these days.

When people ask me why I have the auto lock feature on I tell them my doors are locked for others people safety, not mine.

Same here, but that brings up another annoyance. I don't like the pop-up door locks because if you are rolling windows down/doors unlocked the lock gets in the way resting your arm on the door.

It's hardly a BMW thing though. My 1999 VW Passat had this as well. I like it, it's quite sensible.

"To open the door just pull twice". Not hard to say or understand.

I don't really worry about people trying to open my car doors as I'm driving, no.

I don't find locked doors annoying when driving, as I have no desire to open the door when the car is moving, and neither do my passengers. I do find it annoying to have to unlock the doors after I've parked, by whatever means, so I don't have them lock in the first place.

Agreed. Didn't Ford initiate this decades ago?

What's super annoying is having to pull the handle 2x to open. For 45 years, I never had a car that required this. So--maybe try and tell your passengers ahead of time to give them a "heads up" so they know. Or just hit the main unlock switch for them.
