Thermal expansion causing door locks to work intermittently?
Hey guys,
So I noticed that my drivers door lock works intermittently as the temperature goes up throughout the day. During the early morning and night, my lock works 95% of the time, but mid-day it only works about 30% of the time and I'm forced to roll my windows down and stick my arm in and unlock it. Anyone have any ideas on what could potentially be causing this? |

Doubt its thermal expansion. The coefficients of steel are 6.7 x 10^-6 in/(in*degree change) and for plastics is about 40 x 10^-6 in/(in* degree) change. Small parts and small temperature changes (relatively) equals even smaller dimensional changes. Small electronics are sensitive to changes in temperature, especially if portions have already been compromised.

not so sure about thermal expansion. i have actually never heard that diagnosed as an issue, but there's a first for everything!
but most likely a bad sensor/electronics or something of the sort. |
