Carbon Fiber Front 1/4 Panel?

What do you guys think? What if someone aftermarket like Vorsteiner did a lightwieght front quarter panel that looked something like this. I would pay 2-3 grand for this mod for sure! It certainly seems feasible.

Well it's not for everyone, alot of ///M3 owners however swapped out the front bumpers, hoods, diffusers and boodlids on the E46's, costing much more than 2-3k. This could be the next CSL bootlid craze for Z owners!?!!?!!

+1, I like my panels the way they are so there are plenty of things I would do before replacing those.

The most effective way (besides FI) to make our cars faster is to make them lighter. But as the 2 previous posters indicated the demand will never be there. So people will continue to dump thousands into intakes and exhausts for increased 'performance' or is it esthethics....?

yeah, i would love a CSL type trunk. i would buy that.

i was having this conversation with rogue engineering the other day. they love the car and they would LOVE to come out with mods for it. but the demand just isn't there. he joked about the SSK prototype we are going to be putting on my car and was like "great, once we have the SSK ready for the MZ4 we can sell ... like 4."

if the demand is there, the supply will be too.

Wait, I'm confused? So now you would be interested in light weight body panels just not the front 1/4's? 'cause two quarter panels would be about the same wieght savings as a trunk lid and would be a hell of alot easier to swap.

JMO but the quarter panel is just too large to be plain sided.

I'd prefer that it was roundel-less & leave the slash.

Actually, I think swapping in a 4.10 diff would be the most effective way to make the M Coupe faster, and it's definitely what I'd get before spending 3k on this. The body panels aren't the place to try and save weight on a Z4 - the hood, roof, and fenders are already fairly light as it is; the hatch is likely heavy due to the glass.

As for the popularity of such mods for the E46 - I'm betting they sold more of that stuff to people with 325Cis than M3s. Those bodykits are much more about aesthetics than performance/weight reduction.

Those kits on the E46 are to make them seem radical and exotic; the Z4 is that way right out of the box.

The diff would be cool for sure. 515lbs would make a significant difference in performance IMO. Not bagging people who get exhausts for their cars, I am getting one myself, but I have no pipe dreams of huge power increases. As for the Vorstiener parts I would disagree. Far more of those parts got to M3 owners who want the CSL look, yes there is a few posers who want to pass of there 325's as M's but that is definately not the majority of their sales.

the only reason i say i would want a CSL-style trunk is because i have a roadster and I hate the keyhole and would like to have it removed

To lose 515lbs, you'd need the full kit, and isn't that over ten grand? IIRC, the rule of thumb is that every 15lbs of weight saved is worth one hp, so we're looking at a lot of money for the equivalent of 35hp.

don't worry bro. i will give my full opinion on it when Ben puts the prototype in my car. I am going to bullshit when them a lot about the potential MZ4 owners on this board that would be willing to get shit done.

I might make a thread about this specifically. If i can get a good amount of feedback on specific items that Rogue can engineer. I don't mind using my car as a prototype. Would people be interested and in what?

You should make a thread to gain intrest. I mean if i lived right next to Rogue i would have them make everything for our cars Post on here and bimmerfest. Im interested in SSK, an x pipe to go along with the mufflers, (some EVC system like they used on the e46 section 2 ) LTW flywheel maybe? When do you think you will have the SSK in? because im going to have to sell my UUC one
