Turbo Warranty Measurements?

A few week's ago I had my dealer listen to the waste gate rattle while I was in for service. The SA said that it wasn't that bad, so he would be hesitant to pull it apart because BMW now requires that they take measurements of some part of the turbo before they will approve replacement under warranty. Does anyone have any idea what needs to be measured, and can it be measured with just the exhaust removed?

Don't take your car to the stealership anymore. Find a grade A Indy that won't hesitate to change your turbos knowing they will either fail soon, or real soon. Yes an Indy can replace those turbos as long as they are covered under the warranty,& are willing to go the extra mile 4 u. Stealerships will do anything to not pay for your parts or labor. Go to Bimmershops dot com . Best decision I ever made after 2 yrs of stealership hell! Good luck & best wishes ...

I agree in general, but this SA/dealer has been great to me, and they'd replace them under warranty if they could knowing that I'm not going to pay them retail to replace them because of a noise. Also, how on earth can an independent shop submit a claim under BMW warranty?

If you find a reputable grade a Indy that will go the extra mile for you they would replace it a lot faster & more as a preventative measure. The key is to have an Indy that actually cares about you and your car & does not treat you like a number. Also, about the warranty and how Indy's can do it, I am not sure how it works, but I do know that you can have them replaced through BMW from the Indy shop you take it to. I ended up getting 2 brand new Turbos free of charge & it was all because my Indy told me about the warranty and went the extra mile. Stealerships are good at pretending they are giving you a good deal or are treating you well, when in fact, they r really just wolves in Sheeps clothing.
