Does this require an upgraded internals such as forged Pistons or rods? Also I've heard concerns about the timing chain stretching in 2012-2014 builds. Is this a concern when pushing 300+ hp/tq?

This does not require upgraded internals. We have this same turbo/intercooler system setup on multiple 228i race cars with no problems and they are pushing the same power or more. We have done rigourous testing on the N20 due to our racing programs and applied what we have learned to the street car program, nearly verbatim. Contrary to what you read we see the N20 as a stout straight-4.

How much mileage has been put on these cars with the bigger turbo? I can understand doing it to race cars, but how would it fair for 50k+ miles of daily driving? Can you site any tests that show its durability over time?

Our original shop 328i that was the first development car put on ~25k miles with the big turbo before it was sold (about a year ago). I talk to the new owner from time to time and it is still running well from what I can ascertain. Not sure how many more miles he has put on it but it is his daily so I imagine its relatively significant. Other development cars that were local are all running fine to my knowledge --- I'm sure we would hear about it if they were having issues. At the end of development those additional cars had between 5-10k miles on them--- so I can only assume they have decent additional mileage on them.

More impressive to me is the race cars--- Most race cars cycle through engines every other race or thereabouts so they can be constantly rebuilt, etc. as they tend to break down with how hard they are pushed. Our original N20 race car has been using the first engine/turbo setup for over 6+ races straight without issue (have had some issues with electrical but the engine has been solid ). That in itself is a testament to the durability in my mind.

Dinan, the turbo install talks about a waste gate adjustment after installation. Does the tune take care of that or how is it done? Thanks

Procedure is described on the last page of the installation manual found at http://files.dinancars.com/webresour...da0a7fdaba.pdf.

In the case of a mechanical wastegate the operation is done on a bench and is described in detail at the link above. On an electronic wastegate the function needs to be performed by a BMW diagnostic tool such as ISTA or similar. It is not a procedure that can be done in the driveway/garage.
